my first acid trip was an awesome night.
i played an album (deloused in the comatorium) of the mars volta as soon as i started feeling it, and it was the perfect music. The rushes of intensity coming from the music was reflected in the intensity of any visuals i was having, (very minor visuals)
anyone else fancy the Mars Vo

Most definitely man. They're quite awesome, though I hear that live they aren't nearly as good.

I love The Mars Volta. I found them to be great live. It's very otherworldly, atmospheric, really intense. I felt like I was on some other planet.
They tend to jam a lot more but for the most part they definitely keep it interesting.

The Mars Volta is fantastic. My personal preference is for Radiohead though, especially the song "Lucky". Highly recommended. You will soar.

I never really listened to Mars Volta, saw them in concert with System of a Down (dont like soad, but this girl I knew brought me along for free sooo..) When I saw them in concert they sounded horrible, like a mess of too many sounds. I know alot of people like their music, but I was totally turned off by this show. Do they sound alot better on their recorded stuff, or atleast enuf to check it out?

Im a musician, and I respect the volta.
I think they are unique and rad and all that shit. They also strike me as being sloppy and over-rated. Their live shit makes me kinda ill more so than when in the studio.
I never call a band over-rated. In their case though, I find the first good reason to call a band such a thing. People just like them so much.
Their sound is violent, and I usually like violent music. I just dont know what they are going for. It just sounds like a bunch of kids messing with slide guitar and pots/pans. Thats just my opinion though. An aquired taste in a way, in another, its cacophony.
