FOAF made too much peruvian torch tea, so decided to do an experimental extraction with the leftovers. Probably containing about 30-40g of dried powder. Problem is that it's not seperating. Its been in standing hot water tub in a covered pint glass for 2.5 hours Things that have been done that shouldn't normally been done:- * Tea made with tap water(soft) and lemon juice * Tea possibly a little thicker than it should of been * Maybe not enough toluene * Only have citric acid not sulphric (still w8ing 4 it!)
However, not plastic or aluminium has been used. And apart from the things mentioned all extraction steps have been carried out properly. Any ideas plz? Possibly just needs a bit more toluene. Would prefer not to waste it if possible.

Yea, i know but usually only 2-3. But admittedley using less than ideal setup so shouldn't be surprised. At least seperation has started now. Any one ever used citric acid in an extraction? Only got experience with HCl and NAOH. I've heard it works OK but would like to hear a first hand account. Shall post some pics here i think. FOAF will be doing proper extraction on 1/2kg of powder as soon as sulphuric acid arrives. Will post full report and pics of that for anyone whos interested. Also possible DMT extraction from viridis coming soon.

I prefer citric acid over hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. Mostly because its foodsafe and availble in 100% pure form,. some say hcl is better because its volatile (meaning excess will evaporate away) but I think that weighted against they are not availble in pure form and is not 100% safe to handle makes citric acid a better choice.

I'd say that hydrochloric acid is better, if you know what you are doing. If you are concerned about acid safety issues that you think you will have, then citric would be better.
