WBS Casings
    #5450828 - 03/28/06 10:57 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

Wouldn't it be somewhat of a good idea to put some verm. in a WBS casing? To help hold water....I've noticed that my straight WBS casings tend to abhort on the second flush...Usually due to lack of water, I keep the Rh at 95%...And mist when need be...

I've got a PmP set-up...If that helps, lol.

I just figured that adding in some verm. might help hold extra water for the second flush...

I was thinking about dunking the casing inbetween flushes, but i've had several casings rot due to mushroom tissue embedded in the casing (hard to see and pick).

Anything in particular I should add or search on the shroomery?

I'm pretty sure that it's something simply ridicilous that i'm forgetting, hahah.

-EDIT

I just remebered ...Dunk the cakes before you case :smoke:

That would def. help...hahah...

TIA

verm will probably help speed up colonization and absord excess water on the WBS. I'd add a cup for every ten or so of WBS after simmering.

I put about a handful per every 3 quarts. And on another batch I added like a handful per quart, as a test.

Thanks for the response.

when i did it, i just added an 1/8 inch layer on top of the WBS before pressure cooking. my intention was to balance the water not to increase the water holding capacity.

good idea.

I thought about adding coir because it is really airy..But i've found that the Verm. here is really thick...So it looks even more airy than coir when wet. So all those spaces should fill with myc. and the verm. holds some water.

It's probably not necessary, but i've had a few problems with sudden abhorts, =/, and i figured this would help somewhat.
