T. peruvianus - does this sound like its an active part of the cactus?

hey dudes. My understanding is that the actual outermost skin of Trichocereus cactii contains negligable actives, but the layer immediately beneath it is holds high concentrations. I am not sure what a certain batch of cactus material is actually providing.
"This is the dried skin of the Peruvian Torch cactus" is the only information I have, along with a picture that could be from anywhere, it just looks like these kind of things:
http://www.plot55.com/shop/images/san-pedro-skin.jpg http://www.salvialight.com/pics/trichocereus-pachanoi_san_pedro_large.jpg (mods I hope this does not constitute supplier discussion, I just need to show the pics)
I read in another thread I found that one can usually assume this to mean that it contains the skin and the subcutaneous flesh, but I wonder why it isn't described as such.
In the past ive had dissapointing experiences with supposed cactus material, and would rather not waste more time/money/emotion on ineffective material.
Any advice will be appreciated, thanks

I have been offered a free sample of 10g, which I accepted. I doubt 10g is enough to know if its even active at all, though.
