Pinning from the bottom?

My cakes have started pinning, but they are all growing from the very bottom of the cakes. Is this normal? Too much light? Not enough? Anyone have any suggestions for isolated camping in Southern California next weekend?

That usually means the cakes are starting to dry out, dunk and roll...

I did dunk and roll. I've got the poor man's pod setup and lots of condensation on the sides and roof although no other measure of humidity...

it could just be the pin set of the flush, cakes are like the lottery, somtimes you get one that pins all over somtimes they only spit a few out, your next flush could be better...

I'm going to try casing after this first flush I think. I assume there is no problem mixing three strains in a casing?

Pins will form in the conditions closest to their optimal parameters. Condensation is heavier than air, therefore sinks. Perlite, which I am guessing you are using to humidify your FC, can wick water into your cakes if they are sitting directly/close to the perlite, causing the bottom to be more saturated, and the lower portion of your FC to have a higher RH. This, in turn will cause the bottom of your cakes to pin/fruit more than the upper portion. Perfectly normal for these circumstances. Good luck.

Mixing strains is fine. It is a fallacy that mixing strains hurts fruiting potential.
