Ball regular mouth jars 1

I was just reading the original PF tek, and it mentions something about Ball and Kerr regular mouth jars not being the same. Does this mean that the regular Ball type jars(1/2 pint) are straight all the way through, aka tapered? Basically, will the cakes slide out of them fine? I ask because I can't get the wide mouth Ball jars without a 40+ minute drive, so I am hoping that these are suitable. The original tek lists them as 3rd in preference, so I was just wondering if it would cause any problems. Thanks in advance.

They will only pose a problem if you plan to fruit cakes. If your intent is to case those cakes, any jar will do, as you'll need to crumble them before you case them. Wide mouth jars are preferred for cakes due to the ease of removing them whole.

*BUMP* Are you sure, because the PF tek specifically mentions something about the fact that Ball and Kerr regular jars are different, and that Ball can be used while Kerr can't. I need confirmation from someone who's actually used/seen these!

Do you honestly think I've never seen both jars? Come on. Yes, the Ball jars have a bit of a taper to them, but it's not that drastic. The Kerr is the preferred jar if you're doing cakes in my opinion. If you are not doing cakes, my previous statement stands.
If you can take the time to re-read my reply, you'll see that I stated the type of jar is not a consideration when you are casing your substrate.
