New anti-weed commercials

About a year ago the anti-weed commercials on TV liked to portray accidents and such. For example, one of the commercials showed a car carrying several stoned kids at a fast food drive through and they pulled out and hit a kid.
Now all of the anti-weed commercials I see focus on how lazy weed makes you. I see commercials that say, "Bobby didn't get hooked on another drug or go to jail...he just ended up not going anywhere" and then they show some loser dude chilling in his parent's basement all stoned.
What are your thoughts on the shift of anti-weed commercials?

They shifted into the right direction. This biggest danger of weed is laziness...IME I always procrastinate when I'm high.

The girl that runs over the old man is out having fun with her friends getting high. The loser is sitting in a basement by himself getting high. Which one sounds better to you?

I agree. This shift is really good for the anti-weed people. These commercials are the only anti-weed commercials I have ever seen that have any element of truth to them.
Not that all pot smokers are lazy and worthless mind you...

I love all of the anti pot smoking commercials. The best one is the one with the really young girl taking a pregnancy test with her parents sitting there looking disgraced - all because she smoked weed.
I don't know what else the girl did, but I have personally never smoked pot and had the urge to suddenly take my clothes off. I'm more likely to turn down sex while high in favor of raiding the snack cabinet or something

*stumbles upon thread again*
"Holy shit, anti-weed commercials? I was busy hitting the bong, little girls and my parents basement! HIIIYIIYO!O!!!!!!Oneon!N@11!"
Nawh, for seriously.. those commercials are lame. When I first starting actually learning about weed, reading things from scientific america and scouring peices of information from the internet I gave a shit (and was probably too defensive like a lot of newb asses). Now that I'm a more seasoned smoker, I just shrug it off because I'm too good for that shit. Some people just aren't going to learn, and those ads are going to be around for a long time. It's no secret that weed's HELLA_HARMLESS, but people like selective hearing over the truth. It's an easier pill to sWaLloW.
I have a much, much deeper respect for the all mighty cannabis plant now. And in some ways, it also stabs you a little deeper to hear people talk smack about the plant as well as the people associated with it. But in the long run, I know my identity and the only people paying attention to those ads now are boners anyways! As long as brothers and sisters aren't getting thrown in the slammer, people can talk all the slander they want. Myself? I try to play the activist when I can. Donate money, spread the good word and even pass out fliers if need be.
But anyways, I won't let those ads hamper my mood. Things are cool in BC, my parents are down with pot (and I just smoked up with my stepdad for the first time! got him ripped!) no one around here's getting tossed in jail over any nickel sacs and so fourth. I'm just waiting for people to educate themselves and for the DEA to run out of federal funding or something! Maybe Marc Emery will martyr himself and something good will come out of the whole DEA-Canadian seeds ordeal.
Plutonium, my bong's sitting in the car right now so if you can take a toke for me, I'll do the same.
I don't have a macro, just a crappy camera phone. Here's what I'm smokin (in like 4 seconds after finishing this sentance and pasting a thumbnail). Screw you anti-weed commercials. 100% Burmese, BC grown... awesome genetics, harvested at the perfect time, cured for two weeks and already smokes like a fine wine.

... that looks so delicious.... anyways.. I smoked weed and got aids THE END.... i think that would be an effective anti-drug commercial... just like some cracked out guy like tyrone biggums taking a diesel hit, then the scene cuts and it shows him convulsing on the pavement and then he dies and gets run over.... amazing premise

Why wouldn't that be legal? It would be against the First Amendment to prosecute someone for pro-marijuana ad. And I'm pretty sure NORML has made plenty of such advertisements.

They put up print ads all the time in major metropolitan cities, and even in some prominent publications(not HT)...and I believe they have done TV commercials before...but I'm not sure if they were cockblocked by the man or not. I believe once they tried to air one during the SuperBowl?

yes they did and they were shot down.
big business says "controversy, no sir, fuck you" and they don't accept your money and go give Shrub a hand-job and a high five.
hell government censored pro-legalizatoin ads on busses by cutting their funding until they took the ads off, but they were sued for it i think. i don't know what came of the case.
anyway.......................
My pro-marijuana commercial would be this................... kid sitting in front of TV eating an orange............ very slowly...... very stonedly.................. for about 25 seconds........... voiceover : "You wouldn't be bored watching this commercial if you were stoned right now." Kid says "mannnnn.............. I never new things could taste this good." Marijuana: Why not?

the march must not have done any good because i didn't even hear about it.
we need control of the media.
okay.
someone get to hacking a major network and ranting about why weed should be legal and the government is a draconian tyranny.
a million men marching are actually pretty easy to overlook if they aren't on television, but on television they could change policy quite easily.

That commercial where the girl is sitting on the couch deflated, and her friend says "this is all she ever does anymore"? That girl is my roommate. I definitely approve of the new anti-weed commercials over the old ones.
Honestly, kids hear a lot of pro-cannabis stuff from their peers, and now with all these internet resources, its easy to decieve yourself into thinking that smoking is "hella harmless." If idiots in the US government make up lies about Marijuana, then it must actually be perfectly fine to smoke it all the time... they're liars!
I think the southpark guys got it right... smoking pot makes it easier to let life slip by. I've watched so many kids become bigtime stoners and lose interest in things they used to love... their passions shifted from music, surfing, etc. to types of weed, the best blunts, and sitting on their ass watching TV.
Cannabis has good applications, and with the first few exposures, I think it has good lessons about life and what not. But after that, it has a real strong tendency to make people lazier, slower, and sadder than they would be if they had never tried the stuff. And they don't even know it.
I've had continual problems with cannabis for a couple of years, and I'm on a break right now. Its only been two weeks, and I am AMAZED at how much happier I am, how much less paranoid, how much clearer my thought proceeses are. But mostly, I'm amazed at how much easier life is when you're not smoking cannabis all the time. Shit's just easier to deal with when you're head is clear and your paranoia level is low.
Just my two cents. just because bad people lie about the plant doesn't mean its automatically harmless.

Everyone is quick to attack most anti-drug commercials..
while I haven't seen these new ones yet, from what has been explained, I think that's great.. and true...somewhat. I know people that like bud, but have no problem going without for weeks or months and live a productive life. I know people that smoke every day, and still get everything done.
But, in the vast majority of habitual smokers, there is definitely a motivation problem. Most people I know that dove into "needing" to get high every day are people that don't even want to leave the house, let alone accomplish something.. I firmly believe that in people with addictive personalities and/or little self control, weed can be a very destructive drug

That's my roommate too, except he doesn't smoke pot. He sits around doing nothing but complaining about being unhealthy and getting fat, while continuing to do nothing but become more unhealthy and fatter. I'm the pothead, and I get shit done.
Not to say this is always the case, but it's the person not the drug that decides how they act.

The government should make anti-television ads and put them on television.
TV ads are expensive, and none of the major networks will run a pro-marijuana ad, that's why you never see NORML ads on TV.

What makes you more lazy? The joint that you just smoked, or the fact that you just smoked it, then sat down in front of the television?
I would vote for the tv, personally - you can do all sorts of active things stoned, but being in front of the television seriously limits your mobility.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a few commercials that say "Go outside" or something else to get you to turn off the tube. I know for a fact that Nickelodean has ads like that all the time - though their demographic probably doesn't smoke as much pot as say, comedy centrals.
I like the new anti-weed commercials, too. I still smoke, but a lot of them are actually somewhat truthful and relevant now. There's a few somewhat humorous ones with cartoons now, saying stuff like "I smoke pot to get the ladies.." "Try football." =P

Football, how cliché.
I prefer to talk openly about how every woman suffers from Penetration Resentment/Entitlement Disorder (PRED) and that the only treatment for it is for the woman to engage in aggressive anal penetration of men.

Yeah, the football remark is lame, but at least it's not a kid shooting his friend in the face because he's high on wacky leaves.

yeah, ill agree that it is the person.
my friend says what he hates the most about the truth commercials is how shittly they roll the joint in the stop motion at the end. its like they just crumpled up a piece of paper.
