I've found what appear to be subbs.

Hello. A little while ago, while hunting for morels (they seem to be popping up everywhere- I sauteed a few for lunch...), I stumbled upon tons of small mushrooms that resemble (at least to me) Panaeolus subbalteatus. Without my camera, I can't take any pictures yet, so I will try to describe them. They were all found in an olive grove... Caps are .5 (immature) to 1.2 inches in diameter, with a reddish-brown ring, fading to tan as they dry. The stems are gnarled, shiny and reddish, slightly blue-ish at the bases. The gills are light brown near the stem, fading outwards to yellowish and then to reddish brown at the edges... Still waiting on a spore print. I will update soon.

I don't think the gills sound right, they should be dark brown and black.

sounds like galerina with that colored ring on the stem. don't think subbs have a ring... let's see what the spore print comes out as. my guess is rust brown

My apologies. I was referring to the ring on top of the cap (darkened edges), not a ring on the stalk. Unfortunately, someone threw out my spore print while I was out, so I have to take another one... Ahh, it just came out with a little encouragement. Black as night.

Without my camera down here I had to attempt photography on a mobile phone, which is questionable even when you aren't trying to use the pictures for any sort of specific identification. Nevertheless, I hope they help form something of an idea...

definitely not galerina. looks interesting, would like to hear what the experts say. gills look a bit too pale. Do the stems have spirally looking fibers?

Hmm. Yeah, shiny fibers slowly spiralling up and down the stem. Not at all dramatic, though...

It doesn't look like a pan subb to me, and the habitat is wrong.
The general shape, habitat, and black spore print all point toward Coprinus.

Pretty strange looking specimen. I don't think it is a bolbitius though.. as far as I know bolbitius species create spore print colors like tan, orange, deep ochre, yellowish olive, olive brown, rusty or cinnamon brown, deep brown, etc. It doesn't really look like a panaeolus either. It's hard to get a picture of what an olive grove habitat is like. Were they found on the ground.. or growing from some kind of plant material?

I'm going to grab the camera from my house today and try to get some legible photos... I'll try to get some of the habitat as well.

Today, while looking for some new specimens to photograph properly, I have noticed that the predominant color of these mushrooms, perhaps underscored by the water saturation provided by today's showers, is RED. Perhaps that will help in identification...

Here are some more serviceable pictures. One more thing I would note; these mushrooms are fruiting plentifully.

(^note the slight change in appearance above after a few hours of drying...)

The spores on the cap of the specimen in your first photo are clearly brown/purple-brown, not black.
Naematoloma is a possibility, but I think you have Psathyrellas.

Since the caps fade to a lighter brown as they dry, a common feature in the psathyrella genus - and they have the general look of a psathyrella (and since some species of psathyrella have blackish spore prints)I'd have to go with that as well. It really helped to have seen more photos of them. Thanks for updating, I often find similar looking species in my area that I identify as belonging to the Psathyrella genus.
