I labored for a mason before. That was a fun job. I'm not much for construction, but I liked working with bricks and blocks. Great workout too.

Was working with the school system as a software tech until this past Friday. Now I'm looking for a software development job, or possibly something in network security. I have a 4 year degree in IT, specializing in database administration.

well, what would you do if an angry redneck/angry immigrant/angry close-minded asshole is screaming in your ear about something that isn't your fault, isn't even related to your department, and there is nothing you can do to help them even if you wanted to? all they want to do is vent and yell, and im not paid well enough to be a therapist. like i said, OCCASIONALLY it happens. most people tell me im the nicest guy theyve ever had on the phone. but jackasses get what they deserve.

Out of all the "normal" jobs in the world, that is one of the very few I could see myself doing. If you build a good reputation, there's always work, and people are willing to pay for your quality.
I couldn't believe what some people would pay for a fireplace/chimney, or an outdoor BBQ.

I'm torn between going back to my manual labor type job on a nursery..or getting a job (most likely making more money) bellhopping in an ocean resort hotel by my school. :\

It's real hard work and pays really well. Being that there's a shortage of qualified masons it's only going to pay more and more. I started as a laborer, learned to read blueprints while apprenticing as a mason and moved into management before becoming a journeyman. I should've finished up my apprenticeship, but I can always go back and do that.

Is the shortage of masons only in your area Cowgold, or just generally. I have a possible $12/hr job coming up in the summer, not quite what I'll be doing though, but is in the labor department.

Houston, Dallas, Oklahoma, Phoenix all have a shortage of skilled workers. I don't know about any other markets.

Hmm, I'll have to look into that, masonry doesn't seem like a bad line of work.

yeah it is.
and sometimes in the summertime he gets a call from a developer that is building a crap load of new homes in one area.
so he will go do tile floors, chimmneys, bbq's...etc.
but then we only get to go fishing a couple times a week.
lolzz

Im working on getting this idea of mine out there on the market.
I need to get a job/career to come up with 30 grand though. I figure if i live on 15 grand a year the rest can go towards putting my own product out there my theory is that if i do this enough times one of them will make lots of money. /crosses fingers
