this guy kinda amazes me sometimes. he can sit all quiet like, just coming in where needed, and beautifully so at that.

and then weekapaug comes on and he fucking rocks it, funky style.

yay mike!

I think the best part about watching talented bass players is how effortless they make it look.

Watch gordon, or victor wooten(sp), oteil burbridge, jaco pastorius (if you can find any vid on him), and these guys just jam the fuck out looking like they're barely doing anything.

I used to play bass and man i could never move as fast, accurate, or get my bass to sound anything like these guys can do.

I like how he bobs his head. The bassist from Particle does the same thing. He is going to be playing with some bluegrass band, at Bonnaroo. BTW I am about to call my friend and rattle the cage a little bit. I am getting antsy, myself. I really want to hear something.

2 friends are thinking to just go ahead and get regular tickets and see what happens.. but i'll definitely hold out and wait to see what your friend says! i'm thinking of investing in a car- there are a lot of shows i want to go to this summer, and planning would be much easier if i knew i could just drive everywhere

i was supposed to go to a RAQ show up in burlington VT but I couldn't make it. it turned out that mike gordon showed up and played a bunch of tunes with them  :banghead:

saw mike from front row a couple times, he is the man

i still love inside in or outside out, whichever is just the cd, his first cd.

got to smoke one on bela flecks bus with victor wooten. he is an amazing player, so is les claypool, i think my fav. claypool project so far has been Oysterhead

i know what you mean. like, when jamming on bass, it is very easy to throw in octaves, walking lines, pulls, & pops, & snaps. however, if you do this all the time, the bass-line just sounds corny, and overwhelming. mike is able to use restraint (*cough cough unlike a certain other string player in that band cough cough*) and then a couple of times per show (dwd, weekapaug, etc) he comes in with some rip-roaring fills.

haha yeah
each of my bass heros has there own special place in my heart and they all have shown me different things
gordon definitely has shown me alot about restraint and playing in a solid present state. as it is my nature to play some what wild and un constrained. it is impotent to be able to know when too much is too much
as for other players
Phil tough me about undieing connection to your instrument and about wide eyed acceptance of the unknown.
claypool...well...god damn. i can never put into words the stuff he has done to my brain. rhythmical magician comes to mind
to be a good bass player i also find it is essential to be an original. if you go into any musical endeavor wishing to be The next Les claypool, or the next jimi. then you will never go anywhere. take whats inside you and put it outside :gd_icon:
