Casing mix and potency

Greetings,
If one were to case a BRF cake after three flushes using coco coir and vermiculite, will that produce enough nutrients to supply tryptamines to the mushrooms? Could one add rye flour or rye berries to perk up potency?
Thank you

a casing layer has hardly any nutrients in it, casing provides a micro climate and moisture to the substrate, it increases yield not potency...

But if mycelium grows throughout the casing layer, wouldn't it need more nutrients?

no the nutrients are provided by the substrate, mycelium is a network that sucks up nutrients from whatever it touches thease are the 4 reasons paul stamets says in his book on what purpose it serves.
1. To protect the colonized substrate from drying out 2.To provide a humid Microclimate for primordia formation and development 3.To provide a water reservoir for the Maturing Mushrooms 4. To support the growth of fructification enhancing Microorganisms
Casing materials are non nutritious Peat moss, calcium carbonate, coir, verm are very very low in nutrients for mushrooms, this is why the use of potting soil for this purpose is not reccommended.

Thanks. Sorry I lost this thread.
I guess what confuses me is will the potency somehow be diminished if the new mycelium growing on the casing does not get as much in the way of nutrients containing tryptamines.
Just confused...

I'm not sure what you're tryin to ask, but I'll try to give you a good answer. The potency can be related to the substrate it's grown on. I don't belive this has anything to do with the casings directly.
Potency also varies from flush to flush. It all depends on how much of the nutrients from the substrate has been used from the mycelium. These nutrients are used as fuel to develop fruits. In most cases, your second flush will be the most potent.
Were you suggesting a casing layer AFTER your cake produced three flushes? You would probably get a small flush, if anything at all.
I suggest looking into spawning and bulk teks. Personally, I use clones to transfer to grain jars with WBS, BRF, and verm. When ready, I spawn to Poo and straw about 4 inches thick. When colonized, I case with an inch of my own mix. The flushes I get are huge and potent as hell.
I toss the casings after 3 or 4 flushes. The reason for this is at only 4 inches of substrate, after 3 flushes, the potency as well as amount of shrooms will diminish.

Coir has just as many nuts as cow manure...so therefore thats what causes overlay alot in people using coir..
