You should be more specific. Do you mean you've been actually out there looking for mushrooms? If you have, this is too early in the year to find anything.

=/ It's too early just in NY? Or everwhere? I wanted to try shrooms for the first time with my friend, and I live out in the country with mad farms... I wouldn't be able to find anything if I went out there?

It depends on where. The temperature and season varies a lot over different parts of the world. A lot of the northern parts of America are too cold for now, until spring at least.

Well, I'm in the south. Although it hasn't rained at all.. and all the guides I have read said I should wait for 2-3 days of rain, then a sunny day. But I'm just gonna go out there tomorrow anyway and see if I can find something.

If it hasn't rained in a while, the chances of finding anything significant are going to be very slim.

You probably wont find much in the way of actives at least in NY. Your best shot is to wait until it warms up, rains a shit load, then stays humid, and go check decomposing hay in HORSE stables, for panalous subbaltateus. Check this link.
http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/12183 Subs are on the less potent side so be sure to find a lot!
Or you could just come down to Texas where the cubes are e z....

yeah, its to cold this time of the year, but it is warming up, NY has been known to psilocybe caerulipes that grow on variety of wooded substrate, but there season is not for another half amonth or so. or just go and do what is suggested and look for pan. subbalteatus.
