perlite with fertilizer?

so I've been wanting to try perlite humidification for some time but have had NO luck finding it around here, until today. found a bag of miracle grow brand perlite which is apparently perlite enriched with fertilizer. think this will be a problem to use? obviously i won't be letting my substrate come in contact with the perlite so i'm not worried about the fertilizer in that aspect, i'm just hoping it won't provide a breeding ground for contams otherwise inside my terrarium. i intend to give it a good rinse in a mesh strainer to hopefully wash the fertilizer away, and will probably moisten it with peroxide water when using in the terrarium... think i'll be safe?
suppose i could just mail order some but i got a big ol' bag for 3 bucks and was so excited to finally see it at a local store

Bump. Anyone know the answer? Some casings are going in the FC right now, wondering if there should be any concerns

I don't see how it could protect against contams at all. The extra nutrients in the perlite could (in paranoid theory) attract and harbor contams. Anyone have any actual experience using this stuff?

Usually raw chemials for fertilizer(think like miraclegrow or something) wouldn't support contams. The are too 'hot'. The would checmically burn microorganisms. I wouldnt worry about it. It's not like they put sugars in fertilizer.
What I would worry about is the fertilizer filling in the pores in the perlite, effectively disabling it's mycological use.

What you're talking about is soil with a little tiny bit of perlite in it. This is not what you need.

Nope... its really the other way around, its perlite, with a tiny bit of fertilizer. The contents of the fertilizer are nitrogen, potash and phospate. The fertilizer content is less than 0.1% of the whole mix. To look at it, it looks like.... perlite. I've read that nitrogen is actually beneficial from a potency standpoint (lightbulb over head lights now.) I plan on using it regardless (still going to "wash" it off to perhaps dilute the fertilizer further) and will not put the majority of my cakes directly on it... but will experiment with one or two directly on it just for kicks.
The nitrogen comes from animal and urea sources, potash is basically ashes of wood, and phosphate is a rock/mineral. Its not any sorts of crazy harmful chemicals, or anything nutritive that would support contams as it is. The mix is also slightly basic in the pH, which if I remember correct is also desirable (think lime or calcium carbonate that people add to their casings.)
I found lots of related posts all with mixed answers, most of which speculation, so I figure this is the best way for me to find out! My personal speculation so far is that it will be at worst OK, and at best slightly beneficial.
Seems like a common brand too so I'll report back...
