Substrate question

Yeah so here?s my thought. anyone ever heard of anyone using whole grain bread as a substrate? I saw this movie about this guy who was thinking about using his coffee grinder to grind and fluff 12 grain bread and then use a bit of vermiculite and a bit of water to make a substrate. He did this because he threw out a big bag of bread that had gone bad because of mold. And he?s thinking that if mold likes it maybe myc would like it too.
Anyway it would have to be sterilized as it is an ideal medium for mold but the fluffy bread should allow for plenty of air exchange and the verm would create for structure for the MYC to grow. And its 12 grain so it would be nutrious enough for the myc to get a good grip.
Just wondering if SWIM will be happy or sad if he try?s this. He has had a bit of luck with PF tek but would like to cut the amount of Vermiculite he?s burning through.
Also SWIM heard that you could reclaim old used vermiculite from old cakes? IS this true maybe just wash the old growth medium from it in a colander or something. I know it isn?t expensive, but He doesn?t have a car and lives in middle of big city , ends up mail ordering it.
just a few things I was I heard a guy talking about,, thoughts?

its not that its a bad idea , its just that i for one grow tired of all the people who want to try to find a substution to tryed and true proven methods that have been working for 50+ years. exparamenting is cool true that, but the reson the mutibillion dollor comurshel mushroom industry uses grain spawn to make mushroom is becase when you factor time , cost , labor and yeald its the best.....
now you can grow mushrooms on all kinds of stuff, bread, flour, newspaper ,ect but you arnt going to find a why that is better and cheeper than growing on widely avalable agroculture product (grain straw peatmoss and horse poop)

it wil not collonize that fast becase its been milled in to flour so it will breath like crap and you will have to add vermiculite or something , on the other hand you can get a 50 lbs bag of rye grain for 8 to 12 bucks and have 3 times the weight of useable food in the jar(vs weight and calories of bead) and have not need to add verm to your jars and beables to easly spawn a substrate

My concern would be with the OTHER ingredients used for making bread; oils, yeasts, eggs, milk, etc. I'm far from a professional mycologist, so I would say try it, but don't put all your spores in one loaf . I would really like to hear from a pro.

yeah i hear that about rye. I'm going to go to the coop to get big bag of it tomorrow. I'm just looking for a few different things to work for me. I like PF Tek but I'm really liking what I'm seeing as far as colonization times on RYE because you can shake it and speed the myc faster.. i saw a guy do it in a TEK in 9 days .. 100% colonization. And that was with spores. I wonder Rye with liquid inoc?? the 5 day 100% colonization?!?!?!? hehe prob not. I guess i should just get a bunch of jars and fill my incubator tha way ill always have 100% jars waiting.
its just a struggle to keep things small. I don't sell ANY, or even really share all that much my efforts. A few friends know about it, but i have always maintained that getting caught is all about how many people know your doing it.
anyway thanks for your thoughts. I read a few threads that people talked about this but no one ever talked about if it worked or not (the bread tek idea that is)
