If anyone knows were I can find PDA agar without the use of the internet it would be great if you could let me know. I cant seem to find the stuff anywhere. Do any stores even sell agar offline? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Look in the phone for a (beer, wine) brewing supply store. Youll fine Agar, yeast, and dextrose (AKA priming sugar, aka corn sugar). also, its a good idea to switch the PDA/ PDYA with other agar recipes like MEA (which, by the way, you'll be able to find LIGHT malt extract at the brewing supply place too!) heck, you might just be able to pick up a new hobby while your there, too!

My point is simply that it is difficult to find a place in this country where it isn't available. simply due to the fact that many cultures throughout the world use it to make tasty gelatin like deserts without the use of rendered animal products. I often buy it in the "strips" manifestation, in which it is merely dried in strips and packaged without any crushing and powdering. It works just fine.
The only thing is to make sure when you buy it at an asian store, that you don't get any other ingredients. Some of the packaged stuff is full of flavorings and sugar - no good.
Just call up some places from the phone book. The conversation may be strained, but it's bound to be fun. Call it agar-agar.
good luck peace

Thanks for all the help. I didn't realize that the stuff was used in food. I had thought it was only used to test for bacteria and molds... Thanks again.
