1.5 liter Bags (free standing -impulse seal- zip lock - autoclave - w/micron filter)
    #5442696 - 03/25/06 11:41 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

Just a tease look at possibly the next new bag - on the block.
Yes, that is a quart mason jar inside the bag.
(to demonstrate this size bag)

The picture is of a custom made proto-type autoclave bag.
Suitable for both cakes & wbs/grain type spawn.
It has a new type 0.02 micron gas exchange filter.
They are free standing.
(somewhat similar to a gusseted bag, except better)
Or, will lay flat.
They can withstand full autoclave temps, 6 hours (+++).
They can be impulse sealed.
Once PC'ed
The impulse seal can be cut away & the zip-lock feature used. :tongue2:
No, they are not available for sale (yet).
They may be available to the public, in the near future.
It's coming together.
Patience is a virtue.

yeah I can see a point to those. The zip lock is cool but would the advantage be for G2G for storing dried fruits.

And those bags look thick...heavy duty. :mushroom2:

Next, how about LC bags...

LOL, gimme a break.
I just got the prototypes via DHL today, from Taiwan.
What a hassle it was having these made. :stoned:
R&D, + tool up costs, were not cheap.
All I have to do now, is decide if I want the zip lock feature.
Or not.
And/or, if I want to go with 1.5 liter, or 3 liter.
(or both)
I have a dozen going in the autoclave, right now.
Bag's are thick.
Filter is top of the line.
But, before I pay for a 50K production run.
I want have to watch a few colonize.

I hope that is understandable.

Ah great to see it's all progressing mate,.

I would definitely consider using them, they appear to be sturdy, and the 0.02 micron range is impressive.

I've always wondered if its possible to buy things like the filters separately and build your own ghetto ones, using silicone sealant etc.

Hopefully they'd be better than the current PVC tube | Polyfill | Oven Bag systems. They are certainly flimsy.

The zip lock feature is for loading wbs/grains into the bag & G2G.

Follow along.

How the worlds largest commercial spawn producer makes spawn is this.

They get their filter-patch autoclave bags shipped to them STERILE.

The rye is basically hydrated & sterilized in huge air tight stainless steel vats with a capacity of around 30,000 lbs per run.

Once hydrated & sterilized, the rye is cooled inside that same stainless steel container.

Then the rye is PIPED by gravity flow into a clean room, where a bag filling machine fills each bag. Then, a technician adds X amount of pre-colonized spawn to that larger bag & another machine impulse seals it.

The loaded bags are then transfered to an incubation area, until they are fully colonized.

Then, they are then boxed & shipped to commercial edible grow-ops.

What I have in mind is either of 2 alternatives.

#1. The average guy could soak/simmer/hydrate wbs/grains, load these bags, seal them & PC, just as you would a normal autoclave spawn bag. Then, either inject LC, or open & insert a live culture agar wedge, or G2G. Then use the zip lock feature to reseal them & incubate.

#2
Or, use that same concept as commercial spawn producers, with slight modification. Because the average guy doesn't have a CLEAN ROOM, nor sterile bags.

The average guy could modify & use a stock pot, that will fit in his PC. Hydrate wbs/grains, fill the pot with hydrated wbs/grains, insert the pot in his PC & sterilize it. Which would utilize the maximum capacity of an PC.

Then, (in open air)load these bags with that sterilized wbs/grains, via the zip lock feature, fill the same PC with these bags & PC again, except for a much shorter time.

That maximizes capacity & allows these bags to be reused - over & over again, as they are never impulse sealed.

As an example, look at the AA 941, with an insert below.

Certainly, the average Joe doesn't have an AA 941, with an insert. But, anyone with a bit of ingenuity could find & use a high temperature foil bag, or even a pillow case as an insert. Or alter an inexpensive stock pot, to use as an insert in any larger capacity PC.

We all know, getting the moisture content of wbs/grain is a CRITICAL factor, in successful colonization. In this instance & this method gives one the ability to test the wbs/grain moisture content, PRIOR to adding it to a bag, if one desires.

LOL, another similar bag like this is in R&D, designed to fit in a standard plastic 12 quart dish pan. The object being, colonize wbs/grain spawn in it @ a 25% fill capacity. Once colonized, kneed the bag to separate the colonized spawn into individual grains, then add 75% (by volume) specialized hydrated substrate.

Reseal the bag, allow the substrate to colonize, then once fully colonized, remove the substrate & place it directly into a 12 quart capacity plastic tray, add casing material, colonize that & fruit it - out. Which does away with several normal present day contaminate entry vectors.

Another method in R&D, is a wbs/grain & bulk substrate combined in a bag (described above), that you simply inject with an LC.

The only reason I have not moved to bags yet is because I don't have an impulse sealer.  If you find that the zip lock can replace impulse sealing.  Then it would be VERY friendly to people who are new to bags.  I would imagine it could be partially sealed leaving an inch or so for steam to escape during sterilization then just quickly sealed up right out of the PC.

Looks like a great product.
