Artificial matress
    #5441321 - 03/25/06 03:06 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

As someone knows, this year, I'll have help from the agriculture research to develop technics for commercial outside growing mushrooms for a cheap and some natural ways.

I'm working with an engeneer to make an artificial matress who'll give the required humidity for some kinds of mushrooms.

It will be built on a way that the mycelium cannot colonized it and trashes cannot go in. It will be desinfected with H2O2 passing in tubes inside the matress after each cycles of growth. At the end the matress should cost only $1 a foot square (a block surface needed).
The matress should be good for at least 15 years. It's cheap if you think the space saved for the yied obtained and the time of utilisation.

The advantage is you can make up to 5-6 floors matress. For the experience it'll be a 40'X 15'screen shadow building who cost only $1800. Could be longer or wider. All floors will have a short wall to help retain the humidity but not compromizing air exchange. One thousand and hundreds of blocks should go in. I still have to figure it out.

I cannot send pictures, I don't have a dig. camera and I wont buy one keeping my money for my mushroom works. If someone lend me his camera, then I'll take pictures and make posts.

Anyway if someone still interested, and have ideas, just let me know.

Thanks

Nice project, Micolol2.

What material will you use to make the beds?

A correction to your post:

In English, bed, not mattress, is the word to describe a place you grow mushrooms.

Mattress is a pad or padded frame that is part of a bed.

Hi Falcon

Thanks for your correction but:

Yes it'll be a pad on a bed frame. A felt in the middle of the pad surround with plastic pipes, cover with different nylon types sheets and screens. Each floor or bed will be surround with a little short wall to help keepping the humidity. The pad pipes will be connected to a water system.

The idea starts with my trenches method. The ingeneer helps me a lot to configure the pads. I would say: I know problems we can meet growing outdoors special species here where I live, and with that he configures the pads for the parameters requirements.

Thanks for your interest and helping me to be better in english.
Your ideas are always welcome

Micololo2, very nice, artificial mattress was a pretty good description, I had a hard time seeing it.

Falcon

I remember you were one of the rare ones to have interest in Boletus Edulis. Further in the year I'll probably have some of them from my tree plantations. Would like that I take some spore print for you?
