so what if they investigate you? so what if they come knock on your door? just keep a hundred dollar bill handy. I've seen cops turn down 20's, but I've never seen a cop say no to good ol benjamin franklin.
I know cops who, for $20, will run your ss# through their computers and check if there are any current/pending investigations or warrants, fyi files, the whole works.
you see, once a cop has been on the force a couple years, they tend to lose their naive ambitions of saving the world and realize how things really work. And right now, stoners are the last thing on their minds. Believe me, any cop thats been on the force awhile knows that stoners and psychedlic users are relatively benign. They are much more concerned with murderers, rapists, robbers, and hard drug pushers. Sure they have the right to fuck with potheads, but unless they are total assholes (which most aren't) they generally don't. And the ones that do try to fuck with you are usually just looking for a handout.
In general, I try to make friends with cops and above all treat them with respect. If you recognize that they are a human being doing a necessary job then they will recognize the same of you.

Yeah, that's good advice. I know that I am definitely not a target but it just weirded me out. I'll probably go ahead and accept her friend request. Perhaps she could get me out of a jam some day. Who knows?
You guys gave me some good advice and that's what I love about you. Thanks!

a gurl i was seeing in high school, was madly in love with her too, yeah she became a cop. she knew i smoked pot, she knows how madly inlove i am with mushies, she knows that i do E. etc. we stopped talking over the years, but she knew my email addy. with that she did a search, found me, sent a friend request. i accepted.
ive posted anti-bush shit, counter-culture pics, me smoking a bongload, just pix of me being myself. i dont grow anymore, my house is clean & wouldnt warrant a successful bust.
we still dont talk, i was rather surprised when she left a myspace comment on one of my pics the other day.
we've always been on good terms. just because shes a cop now, doesnt mean that she wasnt a good friend, and i imagine the last thing she would want to do is put her friend in jail & fuck up his life for something petty. (that might change if you dont accept her friend request~! myspace is the devil!) :p
i even offered to hang out with her (in public) & catch up.
dont be timid with yourself. nor be coy of your beliefs in front of a cop, or any government official, friend or foe. speak how you feel, express yourself all that you want. we live in a free country. respect her as a friend, nothing more, nothing less and everything will be alright.
besides, who cares about myspace anyway, when she has ALL your info at the flick of a few keyboard strokes anyway.
ohnoes!!!

that reminds me, if anyone here has ever read 2600: the Hacker Quarterly, they regularly stress that people into alternative type shit should always try to be as open as possible about it, because hiding your beliefs sends forth the message that those beliefs are wrong. Besides, it seems to me that one of the things cops hate most is lying or being sneaky. If a cop catches you in a lie, there goes his respect for you. A lot of times they respect honesty to the point that they will just let you go even if they know for a fact you are in violation of the law.
also, being stand offish with cops is liable to raise their suspicion and possibly make them think you are involved in things much worse than you actually are. Acting suspicious and refusing to comply with cops is the best way to make them start a file on you.

I know these ones by experience. NEVER try to hide something from a cop they can find for themselves easily.

I think you should add them as a friend. I don't think anything bad will come of it, and you're probably worrying a bit much about it, although I do understand your concern. I don't think they're going to randomly come to your house, or message you and inquire as to why you listen to the music you listen to, or anything ridiculous like that. They probably just want to keep in touch with an old friend. I think the risks of adding them are far outweighed by the negative impact of denying them, ya know?
