Believe it or not a genuine religion has been made from the media franchise The Matrix. After Jediism was made from the Star Wars movies you had to figure that this was inevitible.
The website for Matrixisim is http://www.geocities.com/matrixism2069
One good thing about this new religion is that it espouses the spiritual use of psychedelics and even promotes the proliferation of the craft of growing psilocybin mushrooms. They also support the global environmental bicycle movement Critical Mass.
A write-up on Matrixism, including its website, appear in the recently published book "The Joys of Sects" by Sam Jordison. It has also been mentioned in various newspapers around the world including The Sydney Morning Herald and the popular British tabloid The Sun.

Surely there will be some followers of the cult, but it will never be a major religion.
As for Jediism, I never heard of it before. What qualifies something as "recognized"?

The Matrix is basically an allegory for Gnosticism.

you know.
I just realized this religion is correct. We are in the matrix. We are being immersed in advertisements and commercials and constant media "surveillance" (not literal surveillance, but pretend that tv's have eyes, they are fucking everywhere)
it's more metaphorical for how degenerately un-natural our lives have become and how we do not have a natural resting pace for our minds to tune into, because the minds are always being attacked by machine/media everywhere.
psychedelics free you from this.
these guys are fucking right. according to me anyway. according to my views on the media.
Neat.

Okay....... My prodound opinion:
Any form of organized religion is a lesser advancement in consciousness, but.......... The new religions that are begginning to arise definately show a profound metaphysical and spiritual growth as compared to some of the more primitive religions (Christianity) that condemn sexual pleasure, and punish the "evil doers." LOL damn G. Bush!

Ahahahahaha.
In the official matrixism website, in the bottom if you choose the Blue Pill, it refers you to the links for the budweiser, exxon gasonline, and MTV websites. Ahahahahahahaahhahahahahah LMAO.
If you choose the red pill, it directs you to a link for the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies , some motorcyle activist website, and a national association to protect children from child pornography......
I am at a lost of words......

The thing that made Jediism recognized was that over 400,000 people worldwide recorded as their chosen religion on national census forms.
This would not be the first time that a religion has been based on a work of fiction. The Chrurch of All Worlds is based on the novel "Stranger in a Strange Land". A lot of people also believe much of the Bible to be a work of fiction.
I for one a rooting for Matrixism. I've always been a Huxley fan and I do think that Critical Mass is a great cause. By the way Critical Mass is a grass roots environmental bicycle movement. It has nothing to do with motorcycles.
Matrixism has some great holy days too. The following quote comes from their FAQ.
"Q: Are there any holy days associated with Matrixism? A: The first official holiday of Matrixism is Bicycle Day. It falls on April 19th the anniversary of Albert Hoffman's historic experiment with LSD and consequent bicycle ride which took place in 1943. This is a day of celebration in the matrixist community marked by the giving of gifts, bicycle trips, joyful picnics, and other festive activities. Also the anniversary of Aldous Huxley's, C.S. Lewis' and John F. Kennedy's passing (all the same day in 1963) is observed on November 22nd as a day of Remembrance and Reflection. On this day, as well as on Bicycle Day, all work activities are suspended as matrixists around the world celebrate, remember and reflect."
