Avarage PF cake Pin time?

First I want to thank everyone for helping when the information is needed!
This will be my second go, although my 1st try was a success it was not what I expected... however now that I'm a little more experienced at this, maby my next try will yield more!
Any way I have seen some people get pins days after they fruit their PF Cake.
My first cakes took way to long (20+ days) and did not produce much. It was after more research and more questions that I found out the problem.
I have done a 24 hour cold "dunk" and did a double end casing on the cake.
****Now my quick question is what is the "average" time to get some pins? *****And what has been the soonest (record) time for pin development?

The reason your cakes took so long I'm going to guess as soon as they were covered with myc you birthed them. you should let them sit for four days or so after that so the center of the cakes finishes this adds loads of time if the center isn't done.
3 things tell the cake to pin, light, air exchange, lack of nutrients in the substrate. Sure any one of these thing can cause pinning but in most cases it takes all 3. In nature myc colonizes the substrate (usually shit) hits fresh air and light and pins.

Naw, I waited 2 full days after the cakes were fully colonized. The problem was that the cakes were very dry at the bottem. Due to my electric pressure cooker that is very small. It heated the bottem so much that the cakes were dry and had very little moisture.
Its because of that I now dunk my cakes for 24 hours~! Always!

this is very interesting, is the first I have read of this....."lack of nutirents is a signal for pinning".....so can I surmise that the nutrients function primarily in myc growth, and you have sort of set the stage for crop health and yield at the strength of your myc, and the nutrients it received?

there's a key word missing there that might clear it up. a lack of uncolonized nutrients. full colonization is a pinning trigger. no more food within reach tells the mycelial network its "job" of eating all it can is done, its time to move on and reproduce (fruit).

i usually just wait 7 days after full colonization, then dunk n roll and see pins in like 3 days. 5 MAX but 3 average. some jars pin before i even dunk them.

You might wanna read some more recent info. We now know that light during incubation can be beneficial to your pinsets, and as such, colonizing jars should be subjected to light.

well if you dunk, it slows down the mycellium but you can harvest for a few weeks after pins appear.

With the right conditions, should be 5-7 days. The cakes want to grow, so its really not difficult to get them goin.
