my shrooms died and I don't know why

I looked eveywhere on the FAQ and could not find anything like this and asked my friend and he said this is really weird. I am growing the Mazapatec strain and things have been going smoothly until just recently. I was showing my freind the first flush and how well they were coming in when he suggested that I pick the aborts (about 4 shrooms) since they had stopped growing and might die and rot if left on the cake. So I picked them and dryed them with a fan for about 3 hours, once they were completley dry I put them into a plastic bag and put that in the refridgerator. I go to check on them 20 minutes later and all of them have little blue bruise marks on them which just means some of the the Psilocybe got oxidized. I figure no big deal, I must have been a little rough with them when I picked them even though I was pretty sure I wasn't and they hadn't shown any signs of bruising before I put them in the fridge. Anyway, I check them an hour later and they are solid blue almost blackish blue . I did the same thing with a few more aborts from another cake. I was carefull when I picked them, dryed them for three hours and they looked fine, I put them in the refriderator and the same thing happened. I looked everywhere on the internet and the only thing I could find was that sometimes when mushrooms that aren't completley dry are put in the freezer small amounts of moisture crystilize and rupture the inside of the mushroom but my shrooms were very dry and I put them in the refridgerator so I don't think that is the case. Has anyone ever heard of this or know why this is happening? Do aborts just sometimes do this or did I pick them too late?

Not sure what your climate is but here 3 hours with a fan wouldn't even start to dry out my shrooms.
Maybe your shrooms weren't completely dry when you put them in the fridge?

This fan I used was really strong and they looked and felt completely dry. I would provide pictures but I don't have a camera. But if they were still a little moist, would that cause oxidation in as little as 20 minutes?

Did you break one open? It's a good way to tell if they're dry, since they need to be "cracker dry". Aborts can shrink to teeny tiny things when cracker dry, too.... Open air drying could take a few days, I would think. Anyone else know?
Have you read about how to use Damp Rid in an airtight container with something (screen, for example) to keep the plant material off the salty Damp Rid? It can help get things really dry. Just make sure nothing touches the Damp Rid directly unless you like things really salty The drawback to it is having to remove clumped-up "used" damprid, but it might be worth investigating.

Fan drying takes at least 24-48hrs Remember you want them cracker dry so that if you pinch them they will crumble.

I think that would only work if the person drying them had one of those antique crt type monitors. Even then how is that better than a regular fan that you "set and forget"

LOL... What a misleading title.
Your mushrooms bruised after you picked them because they were still fresh when you placed them in the fridge........................

You need far more than 3 hours of dry time. With a fan it can take 2-5 days depending on the size and thickness of the mushrooms. Don't get down. When I first started cultivating I did the same thing, as have many others. Just allow them to dry well before bagging them up. Don't refridgerate. Just store them in a dresser drawer under some clothes or some other cool, dry place. Those mushrooms are probably ruined.
