grain hydration question

i recently stepped up to grain, rye to be exact. i soaked for 26 hours and reach full hydration imo. i have read alot about proper hydration on the site but what i don't know is do i add more water before sterilization??? or does the grain contain all the water i will need for colonization. i sterilized and brgan incubation already with out adding more water, my grain looks dry now, about 36 hrs later. anyway i readon tek say you should fill your jars about 2/3 of the way up to you grain causeing a pool in the bottom of the jar. this just sunded way off to me as it would drown the mycelium? plus no one else mentions. so next time should add water after saturation and how much approximately. thanks or the help. max.

i work with wbs not rye but most people soak and simmer or just simmer to hydrate. im not a fan of that just fill up the jars with water and grain and PC. check out the teks under 'grain' theres some nice pictorial walkthroughs.

Honestly I dont know the answer but.....
My thought is that the grains wont be FULLY hydration until after PC. There would be moister loss during the PC. Which is why you want to add water to the grains.
I dont know how much water to add, I am to the point where I EYE it...lol well it's been working
All I can say trial and error worked for me, but do a lot of reading...here are a few, if your not aware of them.

Go with this Easy "soak and simmer" WBS prep . Foolproof. My first attempt i used Doc's tek and ended up with mean green after 3 days in the incubator. Not knocking the tek or anything but I tried a different tek on my second attempt and have been successful so far.
