colonizing on low temp
    #5438748 - 03/24/06 03:31 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I live in a crappy appartment and we kinda freeze when is night time. During the day I think it should be around 20?C, it's almost nice. Not for shrooms though. Where I live we have to use kerosene heaters, but they turn off automatically for safety (we won't die without oxigen, or cause a fire). So most of the time my jars are gonna be under optimum temp.
I've been thinking if the substrate is gonna be good enough when fruiting time comes. Because it's cold it's gonna take more energy to colonize, and more time too.
Should I add more BRF to the mixture or anything that could help the cake keep all necessary nutrients to have good flushes?

Colonizing in lower temp while not optimal, is fine but much slower.

Now when fruiting might still be able to fruit, but I would imagine the fruits might be small.

Get a steady temp for fruiting.

hot water tanks, computer monitor and routers are good sources of 'free' heat. free as in you are already paying for it might as well use it some something.

Thanks a lot. I'm going to Nagoya today, there should be a pet shop there. In this city ppl don't like pets, no pet shops around.
Gonna look for an aquarium heater, gunna make that TIT work.

I fiund fir $20 a heat bomb was the trick to bring my WBS from 2-4 weeks to full colinise to it has been about 2-3 days and it is almost full. I used a sobe bottle some RVT sealent and a fish tank heater, works wonders

Perfect.
By the time my jars are colonized (haven?t prepared them yet to inoculation) the temperature will be fruiting temp.
I'll have my mushies outside, nature and everything, before melting summer comes.
