Light that does not affect mushroom growth?

Not sure if this is the place. It's more advanced then the majority of the questions that are asked in the general cultivation forum however.
I want to put a light in my incubation closet for my tubs. so i can look at them without mushrooms growing prematurely. SO, i need a light that wont initiate pinning. I know that with plants you can use a green bulb during their dark cycle... anyone know the answer to this puzzle?

A little light while checking will not be problematic. The culture won't pin until the substrate is colonized at the very least. So far as casings go, the casing itself blocks out the light. Once the myc is close enough to the surface to detect the light, it will be pin time by the time it actually managed to get started anyway.
Just don't leave the light on when you aren't looking at it and you'll be more than safe.

only reason I ask is because i had a problem with it today. i turn on the light and check on them once a day... today i had pins in there! i wasnt ready to birth yet. so i was just looking for a better way to inspect them without disturbing them...

Were you trying to wait longer than the fungus was? If so, that's usually problematic no matter how you treat it. What's your growing method, and what stage are they at?

According to stamets, use RED light, like for photorooms. Light from the blue end of the spectrum iniates pinning.

i used this old crap kit before that used red bulbs as a heat regulator. through the whole colonization phase..24/7

I used a red penlight myself.

Yeah, I tried the red light thing. It's just a waste I think. As for growing out the substrate, up until I case, I use all the light I want. Once you case, incubate in darkness as best you can, though, to sensitize the tray to light as a pin trigger. But up to that point, it doesn't matter in my opinion.
Here are the results of some spawn bags I last did that were incubated without any consideration of darkness. I looked at the spawn bags, which held the fruited substrate not spawn per se, as I pleased (i.e. embarrassed to say obsessively several times a day).
The tray you see above yielded 3 pounds off a 12-quart tray first flush alone putting the first flush alone at 100% biological efficiency.

Very nice flush Bro! Light in itself like any of the triggers is only part of the total initiation and as we all have seen over and over there are many ways that work. It's nice to know that if your having problems that optimizing parameters usually solves the issues IMHO. I guess I'm just an anal mycologist LOL

kilgore_trout, the entire first flush was closer to 9 pounds (there were 3 trays). Here is my grow log:

This same grow was covered in the advanced forum:

the mushroom cultivator says blue light for fruting and red light to prevent pinning. regular day light light works for pinning so go figure, thares blue in it. if you let a fraction of a second of blue light in the area with the spawn jars, they will pin...... this is where your "waste of time" errors are comming from. i look at my cultures twice a day when im pinning. no light on for hours style.... actualy a casing should not be totaly blocking light out. remember what i said about a second of light twice a day, think of 5 minutes through a 1/2 to 1 inch casing. then put your hand over a light and look at your hand. can you see red in your hand? this is a loose layer of a soil conditioner, do you think its tigher together than your non transparent skin? substrates can pin when they are not fully colonised, look at MMGG starter tek, and get out of this forum.
thank you for your time SN

TMC was written over 20 years ago and a lot has changed in mycology since then. Paul no longer even holds to that "incubate in total darkness" bullshit, as his incubation rooms are under nearly 12 hours of fluorescent light per day, every day. TMC is great for a new grower to use while getting started, but that's about it. Nobody gets decent pinsets from a minute or two of light per day, and nobody has their projects ruined because a bit of light hits the jars during colonization. RR

"the mushroom cultivator says blue light for fruting and red light to prevent pinning."
I'm not sure about cubensis but I know cannabis uses blue for veg and red for fruit in my research into LED lighting, and im pretty sure thats standard for all plants that use photosynthesis (though cubensis are fungi). Someone please tell me if I'm wrong in thinking that if one is trying to avoid pinning you would stay away from blue 470nm and red what is it 640-660nm so stay out of the blue and red spectrums and you'll be fine, again I am by no means an expert but thats generally what I understand with cannabis and I dont know if it's the same with fungi.
