It's really not necessary as the ingredients are non-nutritional. I will however microwave it a bit (5 min.) or bake it at low temp till it gets good and hot just for good measure. It will take a little practice to get it to come out the right moisture content.

Instead of starting a poll to answer your Q, you should have just FAQ'd yourself!

From what I have been reading recently here, coir is full of nutrients, and some people go as far as to use it in their substrates and not as a casing layer at all.
 Peace.

You can nuke it in a microwave if you don't want to PC it.
Read the FAQ's on casing.

Well, naturally ( ), and yet he is specifically refering to coir, which, as I stated, has had a lot of discussion regarding it having plenty of nutrients in it.
 Peace.

i use hpoo in my casing layer, and lime and clamshells. so there are definatly nutes in there. coir has some nutrients, but most is steamed and compressed which removes most of them. they hold alot of phosphorus though.
