2 questions: Do you really have to dunk the cakes in water and leave them so in the fridge for 24h? Does this mean you actually take the cakes out of their jar, put them under the tap to clean them, then put them in some container with clean water , the container in the fridge, and wait 24 hours? I mean, cant believe what I'm reading, this is some kind of a "revelation to me". I am not native english so i wanna double-check what i read, because it looks incredible, almost. 2nd question is, do you really put 1.5 cm of casing (in my case, just standard soil for plants) on top of the casing? Isn't there any need to put a layer of casing below the colonized substrate? I was taught so... Thank you very very very very much!

yep, I hope your not dunking WBS (wild bird seed) if your dunking BRF cakes, then yes. Dunking your cakes help rehydrate them giving you bigger shrooms. It don't have to be 24 hrs. 12-24 hours is fine.
Just be sterile... good luck.

Just as the strategy says 24hrs. works best but 12hrs. would be considered minimum for any benefits. Verm under the substrate is absolutely unnecessary and only a personal preference which BTW can lead to premature contamination from anerobic bacteria.

Bear in mind, he's using rye berries so it's going to be hard to get the grains out of anything but a 1/2 pint jar without breaking them up. If you're using quart or liter jars, you'll want to skip the dunking step. Just break up the rye grains by banging the jar against a car or bicycle tire, then spawn into your bulk substrate. You definitely don't want to break up a quart of rye, then dunk. RR

But, in case I can get out my rye cakes all in one piece (which I usually do - i use small jars) would it be wise to dunk them?

ALWAYS! If you want to increase your yield that is.
