they wont go before a jury Cowgold, thats a misdemeanor and that means that he will just have a judge hearing. They will be found guilty, or plead no contest, and will have to pay 1000$+ in fines.
Texas cops for the most part are horrible arrogent people. Texans themselves are usually pretty cool, I know that you wont find friendlier people anywhere else in the US. As for the asses running texas, they will continue to run texas, but mostly we just ignore them, texas sort of runs itself, about the only thing the state provides for us is roads really.

Yes, you do go before a judge to state your plee. At that time you have an option to seek a trial by jury. I've had traffic tickets dismissed because the county didn't want to deal with the hassle of setting up a jury trial. Anything can be contested before a jury.

I would be angry if I were the bar owner or staff at a bar that was involved in one of these stings. I guarantee the patrons would clear out once people started getting arrested for this crap. I would steer clear of a bar known to be a favorite place for police stings. The bar owners lose money, the county loses tax revenue, and the tip paid staff do not make as much money. The people will just go drink elsewhere and then drive home if they are so inclined. The tax revenue lost far exceeds the fines collected by the county. This is only add more crap to clog up the judicial system and waste more money.

I don't see why they couldn't just be a private club and deny the police entry without a warrant.

They are just crazy in Texas, I mean I thought it was up to the bartender to decide when a person has had too much to drink. I mean they can see how a person is acting and then decide not to serve them anymore drinks if they have had one too many.

I completely hated my brief visit there. Except El Paso.
And El Paso is only great because of Juarez.
