Help. My dozens of past experiences with mushrooms and other psychoactives, have left me with HPPD and other non-mentionable effects. Though, I would have never imagined that I wouldn't be able to trip. The past 5 or so times I have eaten 2-3 grams of shrooms, nothing has happened. The most recent time, I ate 7 grams which caused very light effects. I could see my third eye projected into reality, (but that's not abnormal for me). There were electric surges of energy pulsing from my eye and creating mild patterns. Due to the HPPD, I can simply stare at a wall and see figures emerge in colors. Constant tracers, especially when exercising. (I rode my BMX really hard, and ignited a flashback). Even when meditating, visuals are very easy to see. I wonder if am experiencing some sort of permanent trip?
Please give suggestions to why I'm not tripping anymore off mushrooms?? Anything I can do to tone down the HPPD?

yikes. that would suck man. what is HPPD? i get the same way with weed sometimes cuz ive been smoking too long. if i go a week or two smoking some really good herb everyday(2-3 times at least), i find i cant get high anymore. but when i lay off for 2 or 3 weeks and drink a lot of water to try and clean myself out, i can smoke some middies and be on cloud 9. i dont know too much about shrooms, im tryin to learn though. but it would be worth a try to clean yourself out completely and start over. sometimes the body just needs to be flushed. i cant imagine having my trips taken away from me, i'd be pissed!

I've felt very trippy and had mild but well defined visuals for about a week after tripping on mushrooms once. I think the best way to get rid of it is to wait it out and don't trip for a while (at least a month or two) and see how it goes. It got pretty annoying for me, I had some strange anxiety at times too, but I found that when the effect came on strongest, if I lay down, closed my eyes and breathed deeply, willing the effects to come over me and get it over with, I could enjoy it instead of getting annoyed or anxious about it.
As for mushroom effects, how long are you waiting between your trips? Perhaps you're not tripping any more due to tolerance?

1. How long does HPPD last?
Many subjects report that their HPPD eventually gets better or completely disappears over the course of weeks, months, or years. Other subjects have had it for 10 years or longer. Generally, medically diagnosed HPPD seems to last at least a couple of years.
HPPD is a serious long-term illness and there is a chance it may not ever go away. Many subjects have no choice but to learn to live with it. If you have HPPD you should seriously consider joining an online community to discuss the medical issues and talk to others about their experiences in dealing with it. You may also want to consider medical help although results are mixed.
2. What are the medical treatments?
It is beyond the scope of this FAQ to provide specific medical advice. There are medical treatments available that seem to have helped some subjects. The online support group at Stormloader has lots of information on medical treatments.
HPPD is very difficult to treat. Most doctors and psychiatrists know nothing about it. Because of the relationship to illegal drugs, many patients receive very little sympathy from medical professionals. Some 'doctors' even go so far as to believe that HPPD and other long term problems are appropriate punishment for experimenting with proscribed drugs.1 If you have HPPD you should try to find a qualified physicician or psychiatrist with whom you are comfortable, who has experience with HPPD.
There are a number of drugs that are used to treat HPPD. Unfortunately they need many months to work, are often not very effective, and may have serious side effects. One of the more common prescriptions is for benzodiazepines such as Clonazepam (Klonopin) or Alprazolam. Other medications have been used, including clonidine, but there is no consensus on best treatments and some medications worsen the symptoms.
Anti-psychotics such as Risperidone are sometimes given but should be avoided since they can make HPPD much worse.2, 3 If you are prescribed medication for your HPPD you may want to ask online to see what other people have experienced with them.
Some herbs and supplements are used by some HPPD sufferers to help alleviate the symptoms, with varying degrees of success. Some people report success with herbal remedies such as St. Johns Wort or Bach Flower Remedies.
The lack of effective medical treatments means that many people simply have to learn how to cope with HPPD. Some users find that counselling or therapy can be useful in reducing the impact of the visual effects on their life.
3.What are the non-medical treatments?
There are excellent online support groups that will give you advice and help you cope. Some report that meditation helps reduce the severity of the symptoms and associated emotional distress. Wearing sunglasses during bright days helps some people avoid sudden changes in brightness. Other suggestions, like those from the experienced writers at HPPD Online (hppdonline.com), include avoiding caffeine, relaxing, taking a warm bath, and trying not to dwell or worry about the symptoms.
Possible treatment medications
Clonazepam(Klonopin)- Benzodiazepine
Setraline(Zoloft)- SSRI Antidepressant
Paroxetine(Paxil)- SSRI Antidepressant
Clomipramine(Anafranil)- Tricylic Antidepressant w/ SSRI properties(also used for OCD)
Naltrexone(Revia)- Opioid-Antagonist
Clonidine - Anti-Hypertensive
As for the mushrooms not working correctly, it might have to do with a high tolerance? I don't know how often you trip. They might also be weak or bunk. Try different ones. Personally i'd give it a rest though until you get your HPPD under control.

Wonderful suggestions!! I do meditate and salt bathe regularly to assist in calming the mind and for general healing. Usually, in the tub, visuals become apparent and 'surge'. I find it to be calming and feels like a release of energy. But over time, it doesn't tone down the effects. Also, I have tried cleansing. Taking a whole body detoxifier seasonally for a year. I usually go several months or more with out eating shrooms and smoke herb occasionally. I'm not sure what to do aside from checking out the online support communities. Maybe someone there will have an idea. For the most part, I've integrated the effects into reality have modified everyday functions. Such as reading; four years ago, when this first started, I literally couldn't read from a book for more then a few seconds. I the after images of text would fog out the print. But that has toned down significantly yet everything else is still there. I am highly sketched out by taking meds for it. But I'm always open to hearing about herbal treatment. Any more ideas, I appreciate them!

I've always wondered if hypnosis might be useful for lessening or remedying effects of HPPD? I mean, it sounds as though it is a psychological phenomenon rather than something a chemical could magically treat.
I don't know... Just a thought I guess.
