Old Spores??

I have had one P. Cubenesis spore print laying around for some time in my desk drawer. I have used it twice before to grow shrooms, however it has been about 3 years since I first received it, will this strain go bad? Is it possible that it has attained a new bacteria, even though it has been zip locked in a small baggy?
Thanks

Yes I would say the spores are good.
But as far as if it's contaminated no idea...
Make a LC test run or small jar......

spores can in theory last a hell of a long time. longer then any of us will live haha. if it was sterile when it when into the zip lock it continues to be sterile now unless the bag was opened of course. i think will aged spores you'll want to leave it in the spore solution for a day or more just to let the spores dehydrate a bit. I'm not sure where i read that but hey its not going to hurt waiting an extra day.

ive used spores that were in the open and completely for many months(mabey 4-6), i also mixed them with spores that were kept in sterlized water for many mothes and stored in the fridge. my syringe was a light black/grey with spores and everything turend out fine. im not to experineced with shroom growing but i would say go for it. the only complaint i have was they took forever to germinate and spread. hence old spores

I'm not sure, but I think agar (may have been someone else) has used spore prints that were 30 some years old that'd been pressed between the pages of a book. They should be fine
Just run a test LC or culture to see if they're contammed or not.

Old spores work best if rehydrated as in spore syringes, allow to sit 1-2 weeks before using for best results and optimum viability. GL

Pair that with a 15 minute ultrasonic dunk, and those old spores should fire up fine.

make sure you boil the water you want to use to re-hydtare your spores. i know its commom sence but let the water cool before dumping your spores into it otherwise youll nuke the spores!

Whenever doing agar work I always break the surface of the agar with my loop and deposit spores below the surface this works great and is almost always the first place germination occurs. Your best bet with very old dehydrated spores is place them in distilled water for a period of time to rehydrate then you can place a few drops on agar parafilm it or seal it depending on contain, remember optimal temps and slightly higher will germinate spores sooner.

You need to make you agar soft. About 12.5g/L has worked for me. Like hyphae said, you can use your loop to imbed them in the agar. I have used a spreader to imbed them with good success. It will spread any contamination around though, so YMMV.
I germinated some 10 year old spores using 1.5% malt extract, 0.5% dextrose, and a touch of deoxycycline in an LC. I actually cut a piece of the print and dropped it into a test tube LC. I did about 8 other LC's with it and that's the only one that worked. It may have had something to do with the paper being in there with the spores.
So anyway 3 years old is nothing.
