The Mystery Odor....

Allright....got some depressing news. I just uncovered my casing to check on the mycellial growth and a subtle yet distinct odor hit me. It kinda smells like vodka only about half as strong. Also, along the edges of the casing the mycellium has changed to kind of a dark grey color. I noticed little drops of water on the grey areas but not on the drier areas so i thought the discooration might just be from the water collecting in those areas, maybe? Somebody please tell me my casing isn't doomed! Thx a lot everyone!

Oh yeah....i didn't steralize the casing mixture since i've heard so many success stories from people not doing that....they're EQs also if n e one was interested.....

I wouldn't chance it, the best thing to do is when in doubt throw it out, also if you didn't sterilize did you at least pasteurize if you didn't do one or the other it is a pretty good bet those cases are goners. but thats just my opinion I only have one or two good batches under my belt someone else might say different.

this was my opinion a week ago, and I'm stickin' to it. It doesn't have to be in a jar to be dangerous.
