Horse Poo Freshness Question

This is my first time using poo, and I have a question.
In all of the teks I read, they say to use dried poo. When I was at the stable gathering my own I looked for the oldest stuff I could find, but it was during winter so all of it was frozen. I gathered the oldest stuff I could find, but now that it has warmed up, it is kind of soft and ply-able. Is this okay, or not? I live in an apartment building in the city so I don't really have a place to dry it out. While I was reading "Using Poo 101" I got the impression that no ammonia was the key. According to the tek, I can just soak it in a pot for 24 hours. After that does it need to be dried, or can I just pasteurize it? Would there be any negative effects from doing this vs. using fully dried poo?

Also, when I am pasteurizing it, should I wait an hour after the middle of the bag gets up to 170 degrees, or just an hour after I put the poo in the pot?

I have used thawed old horse poo without leeching without any problems. It all smelled pretty earthy. I've never leeched and always just went by smell. I figure if it doesn't smell like it's covered in piss it's ok. If you soak it in a pot, you don't have to completely dry it, but you should let it drain a bit so it isn't totally drenched. When you are pasteurizing it you leave it in for however long after the middle of the bag gets up to 170 degrees. I personally do it for atleast two and a half hours. One hour seems a bit short, but it might be ok.

AMMONIA is TOXIC to Myc.
Thaw it & smell it.
If it has a piss, or fecal smell.
Soak overnight in a pot & stir a few times.
Drain in colander & smell it again.
If it has any smell but earthy, like garden soil. Soak it some-more.

Once it has no smell, other than earthy. Add about 20% chunky Verm. Test/adjust saturation level to point. You pick up a handful, it doesn't drip. When you give it a gentle firm squeeze, it drips a few drops. Bag up, use candy thermometer & pasteurize @ 150.160 range 2 hours. (as below)
Once pasteurized, seal bag with rubber band & allow to cool overnight
Spawn within 2 days.
