Welcome to this very special corner of the Shroomery, for all the F.A.G.S. in the house who like to play with fire.  We are the Federation of Advanced Gourmet Shroomerites-- though in reality, we're likely far more advanced in creating humorous acronyms than we are at being actual gourmets!  In essence, this sub-forum of our Culinary Arts experience is for those who want to get more involved with cooking, make a conscious effort to try out new recipes, and even share some of their very own for others to enjoy (or bitch about, depending :tongue2:).

This is a peer review culinary project, with loose guidelines, and for which anyone with the inclination can bestow upon themselves the honorary F.A.G.S. title.  To create threads in this forum, you must have expressed your interest in participating here - and furthermore, you actually gotta participate sometime! :whip:

Procedure:
 • Roughly each week, a selected member will showcase one of their favorite dishes or meals, to be posted in a new thread here - shootin' for Sundays.

 • These recipes should be relatively easy to make with common kitchen essentials (pots/pans, knives, oven, etc), and should feature easy to source ingredients, or suggestions for appropriate substitutions in the event a given ingredient may be strictly regional.

 • Throughout the week, participating F.A.G.S. will re-create that week's dish on their own time, posting within the original thread their experience with the process, indicating the relative difficulty, impression of flavor, and overall comments or suggestions as to their satisfaction with the dish and any improvements that might be made.

 • Photos are strongly encouraged, and should be mandatory for the chef presenting his or her own original recipe, so that participating F.A.G.S. will have a clearer picture of the preparation, cooking, and presentation process.

 • Obviously not everyone will have the same ingredients, time or money, and therefore some deviation from the original recipe is expected - however our goal here is to provide informed feedback on specific recipes, so let's try to stick to the original works as best we can, noting clearly in our review any changes we may have implemented.

Thus far, proud FAGS include:

Keep cookin'! :drooling:

Shouldn't be a problem - so long as we can stick loosly to the schedules, and each thread is labelled with the correct week's date for the rest of the FAGS to know when to start re-creating and reviewing the dish; we're all good

maybe we should consider doing two meals a week, so the time between your cooking weeks does't take eons?

well not one person has made the chicken pot pie and given their take on it, so I think a week is plenty.

maybe we should all just post a recipe and then the participants can choose when they want to make a dish?

you know like 8 people post recipies and then you try and make at least one dish a week for two months - that sorta deal

I don't care when people decide to post their recipies.. however I still think they should note their "official week" in the thread title, so that most of the reviewing process can be organized in such a fashion.  'Cause without some sort of formal organization, we may as well not even bother to make a sub-forum out of this whole deal.  That said, this is still a BETA project, so it may not last if it turns out people aren't running with it.

Lastly, you fluffy bitches need to put some pic's in your threads (shifts eyes towards you_suck & daimyo).  Hell use a cell phone, web cam, or even MS PAINT if you have to - just get something up there - having pictures will help encourage (at least me) to get more excited about making these dishes.

As it was discussed above, just go ahead and post your recipe whenever you want, so long as the title will still reflect your assigned week.

It's been way too long since I've participated in the CA forum. Now that the F.A.G.S. sub-forum has been added, it's going to be
far more organized and lots more fun. I want in. I have so much great stuff to share and some really easy but amazingly delicious
recipes for fast and easy main courses and simple to make snacks and appetizers, along with my more difficult and intricate
recipes. All of my recipes will include many detailed pic's like I did in my  sweet & sour soup pictorial recipe (which, as far as I know, nobody else ever made) :frown: .

Anyway, I'll take the next available date (week of July 2nd) if that's acceptable, though I'll likely post it far earlier.

I already know what my first two recipes will be and I may combine them into one post since they are an appetizer and a main dish.

This is going to be GREAT, although, I'll admit right up front that I won't have the time or inclination to recreate everyones'
dishes, however I will certainly participate in as many as I can that interest me.

I think we should go about removing the non-participatory members from the list this Sunday. Perhaps a notification via PM should be sent to let people know that if they don't participate, they are gone.

That's basically what the Culinary Arts forum is. The idea here was to get everyone to focus on one recipe at a time. And best I can tell, it's not working as of yet. Only GabbaDJ made the potpie, and only I've made the flank steak. Although, I think GabbaDJ is planning to make the steak as well.

Adding rates to the CA forum itself would be a good idea. Then perhaps this subforum wouldn't be necessary.

In answer to your PM, which I'm sure went out to all FAGS members, yes, I'm still interested in participating, but time is tight for me right now. I'm currently composing a post in another forum that explains the details of why that is. I'm sure I'll be forgiven and please bear with me until I can more actively participate. I will not fail to (at minimum) do my part to add my appointed recipes on my assigned dates. Thanks.

hey thanks for the PM reminder.

I havbe one dish I'm currently considering, and if you've ever been an avid fan of iron chef, it is Chen Kenichi's chili prawns, something that chairman kaga proclaimed to be his "all time favorite dish" on the 1000th plate special episode.

online you can't really find the most authentice recipe, best thing to do is rewatch the episode which i plan on doing.

That's part of the point to this. Try things you wouldn't normally try. Otherwise, we could hopefully just add ratings to the regualr CA forum.

I'm starting to think that may be the best route. What's everyone else's thoughts?

It's not a matter of trying things I wouldnt normally wouldnt cook in the kitchen. It's a matter of actually seeing a dish that looks like something I would enjoy.

No offense to you guys though, those dishes look pretty good. Im sure my friends would be all over that  Just not my bag.

The next dish should go up today, and the responsibility lies with geo. If he doesn't post by 4, it goes to morphogenetic. I will PM morphogenetic right now, and make him/her aware that (s)he may be up early. If there is no response by 4 from morphogenetic, then it goes to Chazzersize.

:foreheadslap: Damn, yo!

Hehe.. you're right up on top of this bitch.  Unfortunately I took some time off last week and took the 15 fwy into Vegas.  Got back over the weekend and ate some mushrooms with some ol' friends.. so yea I was totally slackin'.. but now it looks like I'll finally have my usual amount of time to dedicate to this shindig.

Worst thing is that I left my camera in San Diego last time I was there on business, so I can't take pic's of a fresh recipe.. however I do have a handful of recipies that I've taken pictures of in the past and never posted - so I'll try to select one of those, remember the method, and post it by tonight.

In fact, I believe I know exactly what I'm going to post - and it will be a quick, simple, and easy pasta dish for anyone to prepare.. delicious to boot!

Allright I loosened up the guidelines in the intro post here - since it seems they weren't being followed as previously written anyway. Some kind of ratings system would be excellent, even if it's a manual one where each person replying to a recipe gives their [o/1o - 1o/1o] personal rating. We could even devide it up into segments like they do on the iron chef shows (ie. Taste, Originality, Visual Appeal)?

i'm a professional chef...

count me in as a FAG, i guess.

I can cook pretty much anything.. but hate baking.. too exact, i don't like recipes.

You're in - week of July 23.

But given the relative lack of participation as of yet, there may very well be much reformation (or even anihilation) of the forum before then

My suggestions for reformation.

Give two weeks to complete recipes.

And recipes dont need to be followed exact but the dish idea must be the same. So like instead of Pot Pie recipe just say people need to make pot pie. Same with Flank Steak. Its good to give a recipe but its not a rule.

i will admit, also, that i probably won't get a chance to cook most of the recipes that are presented.. but will definately read through them and check out the photos..

seeing as how i spend 8-12hrs a day, 6 days a week in the kitchen.. my one dinner at  home a week is generally just what i want it to be..

Go ahead and PM me any links to threads that contain a comprehensive quality recipe (pictures encouraged).
If it looks good, I'll move it in here and give the author thread-starting privilages here as well.

Well it really needs to be less restrictive and more flexible if its to work well.  That's why I'm saying, forget about the whole assigning each FAGS member a specific week to create their dish.  Let's just make FAGS of anyone who does a good job at posting full recipes with pictures, given them write privilages in here, and let people post whenever their time permits.  I haven't been watching the culinary forum much over the last year or two... but like I said, if you've seen quality threads just shoot me a PM or post the links here, and I will move them into this forum (while also giving the creator write privilages in here for future additions they may wish to contribute).  If we can get a solid base of contributors, the rest should take care of itself.

this sounds like a good solution

anyone else notice how the quality of threads in this forum have gone to complete garbage?

do you like soy sauce?  minced mushrooms on hamburgers?  i mean common.

it's kind of like that early thread when someone felt the need to mention putting hot peppers on food makes  them spicey.
