Ok, first try PCSA, 12 jars, lost 3 jars to the green, the rest went into the terrarium and after 4 weeks NOTHING, but one 3.5" shroom (i'm guessing i didnt give them enough light.
Try two: 24 jars, 1/2 puerto rican, 1/2 Equador and 1/2 rye grain, 1/2 brf...... its been 2 weeks, just lost 9 fu**ing jars to the GREEN and all of them were rye grain jars......... DO RYE GRAIN JARS have a rep for getting contaminated? Some were 8 hole innocs too I think I'm going to stick to brf. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT GREEN ANY WAY? WHY? OH WHY? is that the most common type of contam?

yeah rye grain tends to contam alot more then other substrates, an alternative is rye flour, get it from the same place you get the BRF, it is said it produces better fruit then regular BRF

personally.. I think that you can use any of the common substrate materials and have success, but it always seems to be the sterilization procedures taken in preperation of the substrate and jars that seem to be the problems..... what are your methods for preparing jars?

For the pressure cooker to do its job you have to use it correctly. Make sure you wait until a good head of steam builds up before you close the vent to build up pressure. Steam loves to give up heat which is why it burns so bad. Steam is what makes pressure cookers work. If you close the vent right off then very little steam forms which results in very little sterilization. Good pressure cookers and most autoclaves have a valve that closes once steam starts to pass through it ensuring good thermal conductivity every time.

straightbangin,
I think your problem has to do with after you pressure cook your substrate.
Are you using the oven tek to inoc your jars?
Are you making your own spore syringes?
And are you cleaning your needle after every jar?
Sounds like you are doing something wrong.....try and improve your technic.
Clean your working area with bleach or Lysol....make sure you don't have any drafts.

It's seems there is a flaw in your sterilization techs. Do some research here at the shroomery on sterilization procedures. I'f you are new, you should use BRF and verm. i beleive it contaminates way less. make sure to boil everything. use some lysol and hydrogen peroxide(rub on tools).
The oven works good for keeping airborn contams off of your work. I have used it several times with success. turn the oven on it's lowest setting, and work in the enviroment created(rising of hot air). Take a shower right before innoculating, and keep your hands clean. don't breath on your work.etc. there are many ways to be sterile. the best way, I find is to be pateint, and make sure everything is done right, and sterile.
there's tons more info here at the shroomery about sterilization techs. checxk them out. Good luck,
one more thing;it is posible to catch green mold early, and fight it with hydrogen peroxide. rub some on the lids or something to keep the green mold at bay. i have heard you can inject some HP into the jars when you notice the green mold, and it will kill it.

I'm using spore syringes.
I'm spraying lysol in the air before i innoc, clean hands, dont breathe on my work either. I'll def do the oven method next time. I used it for a spore print I once made and it worked pretty good. Never thought about using it to innoc.
I dont sterilize the needle after each jar. I'm afraid to...... i'm afraid if i wipe the needle with alcohol that when the needle goes in the next jar it, the alcohol residue on the needle will kill some spores cuz of how strong alcohol is, and I'm afraid that when you burn the needle with a lighter, the heat from the needle will kill spores the same, or if you wait a few secs for it to cool down, either a) bacteria in the air will land on the needle or b) the black on the needle from burning it will kill spores or get into the substrate and mess it up?

Use the oven tek for sure, I have had a 100% success rate with it. As for rye and the green mold, here is something that works real well for me and I have had close to a 100% success rate with it. Make sure you soak the rye berries in water for no less than 24 before sterilizing them. this allows time for endospores to germinate and therefore you have a better chance of killing any kind of bacteria or mold. It has worked for me, and hopefully it will work for you. No less than 24 hours though. And be patient.

Yeah you might try what CuckoosNest suggested.
I'd use the oven tek if i was you...when you inoc....i do.
You probably should at least clean the syringe needle with alcohol after every jar.....to be on the safe side.
You don't have to flame the needle every time....Just wipe it with alcohol.
But if you do flame the needle....after you flame it....wipe it with alcohol.
Wish you better luck....man

If you flame the needle after you swab it with alcohol, it will burn off all the residue. My friend flames her needles until they glow red and then quenches them in 99% isopropol. Once last quick flame to burn off the excess and then push a bit of liquid through to refill the needle (all the water has boiled out) and to make sure it is cool. Innoculate one jar. Repeat.
