Hi Shroomers, After getting heaps of advice from these forums and some great info from _OttO_ (thanks for being patient) I've finally got around to start growing. My first step was to make up a liquid culture. I'd love some informed criticism from all you knowledgeable folk here as to how you think I'm going. So I've got some prints!!!

Ive got my Honey!!!

These are the Jars I'm using. They are preserving jars so the lid is in two parts, one part screws onto the glass jar and the other part is the top of the lid.

I sterilised the jar as outlined here http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...98368cd80a117b6 in _OttO_'s liquid culture tek. I got the hole punched in the top and the foil in place.

I boiled the jar with the honey for half an hour and left it in the pot overnight, also went to work for the day so it was sitting on the stove top cooling down for quite a while. From about midnight through to 5:30pm the next day. Is that too long? Anyway, Got home and prepared for inoculation.

Scraped half a B+ print into the jar with a sterilised knife and gave it a shake up.

Labeled the jar and crossed my fingers!

Ive put it into a opaque tub and now I'm waiting to see what happens. I'm wondering now whether I'm going to have to heat this tub up using a tub in tub method. Any info on my process so far would be invaluable. I'll post pix of my next step, using a syringe to suck up this liquid so I can inoculate my substrate. I'm having trouble getting onto some Brown Rice Flour but I've got a week to get my hands on some. Wish me luck, i think I'm going to need it.

Hey mate, nice to see another aussie here. I followed Ottos LC tek for my first grow (zero experience in mushies) and i have had zero contams, 100% success using Ottos tek. From the pictures, looks like uve done everything to the T, which means unless u wer slak with ur sanitisation, u will be fine. Well done on going for LC's, and good luck mate, hope to see u here more often.

Scraped the print into the jar. I hope you did this in a glovebox? Exposing the print, and that jar full of nutes to open air would of been a bad idea.
Incubate it definatly in a TiT.
TBH -- Start with grains =). Check out the teks, more specifically, Magash's Rye tek in the archives.

i always imagine that when no follow up is replied it is because it worked and the guy forgot about the post... if it hadn't, he wouldve posted a buncnh of questions about why it didn't work.

The last time he was even logged in was around last thanksgiving. Scraping spores into honeywater is a poor way to make liquid culture. Use your spores to inoculate grains if you don't have agar. Grains will grow out ten times faster than honey or karo water, and you'll be able to see if it's contaminated or not, which you can't do with liquid. RR
