Something I did while having the best trip of my life...

I made some art!
I first drew these in charcoal on paper. Then took digital pictures of each. Then photoshopped em'. Let me know what you think.
I got lost for about 2 hours just drawing these. Was absolutely amazing. My inspiration came from watching my incense burn (watching the smoke dance and breath) and listening to T00L
after photoshop: http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=394692 http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=394694 http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=394698
before photoshop example: http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=394702
mush on my peepsters, matt

Wow. I really like those a lot. The photoshop ones look nice, they don't look tacky like a lot of photoshop stuff. I really like the unaltered one though. It has a lot of motion, the lines are really nice. I can see the smoke in it for sure. I know what you mean by getting lost in drawing, I had one trip where I spent a long time just completely absorbed in a drawing. I don't like it a lot now, but there are several parts that were just unlike anything I had made before. Drawing is a really nice thing to do on a journey like that, it is something that is sort of like a record of your jumbled thoughts that you can look at later. Thanks for sharing that.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts too!
I totally know what oyu mean about how all your jumbled thoughts come out on the paper. At the time I drew these I was in a vey primal and fluid state (mentally). I feel like these sort of look like some sort of functioning, microscopic structure of the brain or blood stream.
I dunno, that is just sort of what I felt...
The thing I really like about drawing while on mushrooms, is that I can see all the depth and surfaces perfectly. I can see angles and my hand just moves to them without me even thinking about it really.
Anyways, thanks again.

Very nice. Mushrooms are such a tremendous source for creativity and inspiration. I do some amateur photography, and also fiddle around with Photoshop now and then. I'll usually start with a photo, then just manipulate it until I find something I like. I'm not very good at drawing, and I've barely ever even considered using a drawing as a basis for some Photoshop until I saw your pictures. Now I'm going to give that a shot. I particularly like the 3rd image.

What I did was take a digital picture making the whole drawing fill up the whole frame.
Then in photoshop I cropped out anything that isn't the white paper and the charcoal (not much cropping to do if you take a good picture that fills the whole frame of your field of view).
Then I usually up the contrast and lower the brightness to really bring out a lot of intricacies. Then I just start messing with blurriness, color balance, inversions, and filters.
Thanks for the input! I love it all, good and bad.

I wanted to draw the last time I tripped, but I ended up under a wonderful mountain of blankies travelling the universe. Seems like it might need to be a lower dose to work.
At least for me because an 1/8 immobilizes me basically. Generally that is.

Right now I am a student. Studio Art is my concentration.
What kind of person am I though? Hmmmm...very tough question. I guess, what you are looking for is what makes me tick? Well, I love exploring creation theories and whatnot. The holographic universe theory that was posted on these forums a while ago had me floored. I really enjoy pondering what makes us human. To me, there is nothing more interesting than the abilities and complexities of the human mind and this concious life that we live.
Anywho, that is probably what you were looking for somewhat...i think

I agree with bigbadwolf. I was preparing myself for an amteurish cell shading of a mediocre drawn character.
But, Syle, these are beyond anything I could have been prepared for. They're absolutely amazing! Did you just draw the charcoal when you were on mushrooms or did you photoshop as well?
How much did you take? I can't even imagine myself being able to function enough to use photoshop while tripping.
Good work, man. They're saved on my hd so I can check 'em out next time I'm tripping. Hell, even when I'm sober.

cool cool pics buddy. the 3rd (blue) one is my fav, but im partial to blue. ill have to try drawing next time i trip. i tried writing once, but my hand couldnt keep up with my brain. drawing would let you go as fast as you needed to and wouldnt keep you confined to just letters. theres only so many letters you can use, ya know?

I didn't do the photoshopping while tripping. I thought about doing it while tripping because that was my initial plan at the start, but when I sat down to actually do it, my mind just wouldn't let me function enough to manuever in the program so I decided to wait till the following morning to alter them.
Thanks for the input!

I am very partial to blue too! I think it's because of the relationship of the primary color to the primal/down-to-earth state of mind that we are in sometimes whilst tripping.
About the drawing. I should videotape myself doing it next time (in case you want to try the technique I am using). The whole "drawing" aspect is VERY gestural. Meaning I am not holding a pencil, but a somewhat large piece of charcoal and my hand rarely stops gliding around, and it just sort of goes where it feels right. Sometimes I "pepper" the paper with the tip of the charcoal to get a certain texture, but if that isn't feeling right to me, I just lay the charcoal down on it's side on the paper and just start gliding it around again. Hence why these pieces have such a sense of fluidity to them.
I was also looking at smoke from my incense half of the time while drawing. So that heavily influenced their outcome too.
Thanks for looking!

ooooh, i love smoke when im trippin. one of my favorite things to do is park my truck, turn up the bass on my audio system in my truck, roll up the windows, smoke a blunt, and watch the smoke dance. it's not just that your trippin, the smoke actually vibrates in the air. i see it all the time sober and i tried it once after some shrooms and the smoke took on different colors and danced to the music. my head unit helps too, its a panasonic with a full color display that you can load different pics and even videos on. there's one video that came with it with various underwater scenes and oceanic animals. fun fun fun!
