adjusting PH of peat... need help

I'm trying to adjust the PH level of some peat i just got using granulated pelletized lime. i'm puzzled because it seems like i've put A TON in there... and the PH according to my PH tester is still only 6... i'm shooting to get to 7 and then put some crushed coral aragonite for a long term buffer (couldnt find oyster shells to save my life... heard that would work)
here's what i've done... i put a little coir in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket and then added peat moss and added water to it til it was really gloppy... the bucket was less than half full. i tested the starting ph and it was like 4.5... i've probably increased the volume of coir/water sludge by 1/4... and i'm still hovering at six (after rinsing the test probe well)
am i doing this right? is my PH tester a piece of shit? will this work? etc? throw me a bone here....
thanks a lot

Pelletized sounds like it's a 'time release' type of thing. You won't know what your pH is going to be in a few days if you're using that shit.
If you have some time, and you haven't exposed the casing to much contamination, I'd let it sit for 24 hours and retest it again tomorrow.
That stuff might work in the long run, by adding a little to regular horticulture hydrated lime, but I think you just discovered the problem of using it.
GL man!

i've left it sitting for about an hour and it seems to be close to 7 now... i'll let it sit for another couple of hours and see if it gets any higher... if it gets too high i'll add more peat to bring it back down...
i want it to be just a little above 7, then i'll add my long term buffer and dry verm and load in jars and PC.... i've got 4 6" deep hpoo tubs spawned with YB clones that need cased bad... hope i can have it ready soon...
sry i use a lot of ...'s
anybody have any more input?
thanks again.

well i think i'm ditching what i have, going back to the store for hydrated lime... i said i didnt want that because i heard i could burn my myc with it (i said i was using it to neutralize peat for orchids... they bought it hook line and sinker) but now that i have a ph tester i think thats what you need... from what i've read in the past couple hours pelletized lime is for stabilizing field ph's over 2 or more growing seasons and is not good for caseings that have a shelf life of about a month... (i'd link roger rabbit's reply but i'm too lazy/drunk ... thanks for the info... again...)
later dudes maybe i'll post once those 6" deep caseings are fruiting... oh in other news i just looked at them and found that one is suffering from green mold... off to the "spent" heap it goes... 3 left (but they look oh so good.
