LC: Contam or Sediment?
    #5424883 - 03/21/06 11:37 AM (18 years, 11 days ago)

When I made my LCs I didn't filter and PC again. So I believe what I'm seeing are sediments, but I haven't had a lot of LC contam pictures to refer to, so what do you guys think?

My other jars kind of have this (some a little more) but they all seem to have it on the bottom which makes me think it's just sediment stuck to the myc.

it looks like sediment/mycelium

you're supposed to strain out the sediment with coffee filters, but you should be alright without doing so. it just aids with making a clearer solution. go ahead and harvest some of that mycelium.

I've already used the LCs to make syringes and the sediment doesn't pose a problem. The only thing that ever clogs it is what looks like murky goop. I found it easier to get a good fill by agitating the liquid by sucking and squirting a couple times and then sucking up a full syringe. Does anyone have a good link to LC contams or anything, I want to know what to keep my eyes out for.

On a side note, I'm tossing one of my extra EQ LCs to use the jar for a Transki LC and since myc still has psilocybin, could I strain the myc from the honey and maybe mix it with some tea? About how many grams of dried shrooms is the myc in the jar equivalent to? I'm probably just gunna toss it, but I'm still curious.

Ive got the same looking sediments in mine, the mycelium appears to be growing though, and I am going to do some trial cakes to see what happens. If it is contaminated, the mycelium will not grow on the cakes, correct?

You have to use them quick? How long can they be kept in the jar incubating?

No you don't have to use them quick. Refridgeration is commonly used to store them after they have colonized the LC.

If they are left too long in an incubator and their is ample nutrition they can get too thick to draw up a needle.

Hope that explains something.
