What kind of water should I use in substrate?

What kind of water is good for use in substrate? I've heard distilled, spring, or mineral... I've heard of people using tap water, or even pond water? Does it matter? What's good for substrate? Bong water? Toilet water? Urine? Any advice out there.

use spring water. its 1$ a gallon at walmart. distilled water isnt as good, lacks nutrients. pond water is ok, so long as you presterilize it.

My friend uses good old tap water and has never had any problems. She does let the water sit out for 24 hours to let the chlorine escape. She also uses a pressure cooker for sterilization. She once did a valid, but statisticly insignificant (N=1), experiment with tap, distilled, and mineral water in three different jars, BRF & verm - pftek, and the pf spore race incubated at 86F. All three jars colonized at the same rate with no contamination. Without more samples (jars) the results don't really mean much.

I use tap water out the faucet when mixing substrate. For dunking and syringes i boil the water first. Works fine for me.

Your safe with distilled water, but alot of people just use thier tap water as well. The less aditives there are in the water the better, just IMO

>use spring water. its 1$ a gallon at walmart $1 a gallon! I got Mt. Elphie spring water comin' out my tap for free, I think I'm in the wrong business! I like the Mt Elphie spring water, I feel it adds a little bit of 'magic' to every syringe but the fact is, any water I've ever used, as long as I boiled it first, seemed to work OK!

Ive been using 10:1 distilled water and honey. It has improved the health of my mycelium and seems to promote abundant fruiting.
