Peer Guardian and MediaSentry

I recently installed PeerGuardian..
Apparantly MediaSentry is blocked every three seconds or so while downloading a torrent of the Sopranos, along with "Time Warner Telecom". They are blocked..but is this a false sense of security?
Also, are all torrents this infested with the MPAA or RIAA or whatever company's materials are being shared?

I installed something today called Peer Gaurdian..which blocks all of your ports from intruders.. basically I had something called "MediaSentry" scanning the hell out of me for a few hours while downloading. I googled it, and it's a company that helps track copyright infringement for the MPAA and the like..
I never used this program before, it really opened my eyes to how wide open and vulnerable torrents are.
Is this much less of an issue with private trackers?

PeerGuardian is definitely your friend. I don't know how well it protects, but I'd rather see it flash up as "blocked" than go by unnoticed.
Also, I find that I get the most hits from MediaSentry while browsing any kind of torrent website, and not while actually completing downloads. Is this congruent with your experiences?

Welp, I'm not home right now, I'll test it out later..
but the hits were going insane while I was downloading a popular file, and even after completing the file and closing bitComet, kept hitting.
I even restarted my comp, and the hits were still coming like crazy. I have a static IP, maybe they flagged it?

having IP range blockers like peerguardian and protowall help, but all in all, they create a false sense of security. the agents of the riaa/mpaa surely know of they are being blocked and could easily spoof their IP range or use an unknown range. false positives/hits are very common as well. but as jc said, it is better than nothing.
be careful downloading current and new releases that hollywood is making money off of. they are looking for those that upload (which is what you do with bittorrent) these movies. try to find private trackers rather than use the big public ones. or better yet, learn newsgroups if you must download movies.

Yeah..I thought that was a false sense of security.. been reading a little bout binary newsgroups.. my main beef is that it's way harder to wade through all the headers. But I'm gonna hafta learn that sooner or later.

I prefer to just use built-in ip-blocking functionality in torrent apps, rather than third-party programs
for example, using ipfilter.dat in utorrent
Booooom, check out nzbzone.com. NZB files contain information about posts on usenet for a particular binary file. You load your NZB into a compatible reader (such as GrabIt) and it will download your binary parts, without having to wade through headers.
NZBzone.com and NFOrce.nl make using usenet simpler and improve the reliability of stuff you download
