Zeba aka AquaZorb Experiment

I dont know if any one here has heard of or tried this stuff but I figured that it might be useful information.
So my friend started to work for this company that was coming out with a cutting edge soil amendment known as AquaZorb, and he hooked me up with a few free samples.
Basically it is a starch based soil additive that retains water and distributes it over time. The tiny particles absorb up to 400x their own weght in water. I figured since shroomies need almost as much moisture as they can get (without puddling up) that I would experiment by adding some to a set of cakes and seeing if there was any major diferences observed in the cultivation process. I have just recently inoculated the jars, and I am already anxious to see what happens.
I think that it could possibly have many other good uses also.. perhaps humidification, use in casings, and bulk substrates.
I searched for auquazorb on the internet, and it appears that it changed its name to Zeba. The website explains a lot more, and provides a good demonstration of how it works.

Thought that this was interesting and wanted to share

Just looked at the retail outlets that sell their products, and noticed one was less than 10 minutes from my house. Definetly worth a look.

So far everything is looking alright. The cakes are just starting to colonize , both the ones with Zeba and without. One conern I have is that the ones with the zeba seemed to have swollen in the PC and might have become pretty snug in the jar. In this experiment I mixed the Zeba dry into the verm and brown rice flour before adding the water (I added extra to make up for greater absorption). I think a better method would be to soak the Zeba in water to allow 100% absorption then mix in the verm and brown rice. Anyhow, I have some jars of WBS also that I am planning on casing so I will also be adding Zeba to the casing layers to see how that works. Perhaps a casing with one side normal and one side Zeba to compare.

Sounds great! Perhaps do that same test but use it in half the substrate and leave the casing layer as 'stock' as well?

hey sorry for the no update. I fucked up the original casing I was doing with the WBS.. but ive got another batch almost done colonizing.. then I can do the casing without fucking up this time The cakes are for the most part colonized.. except for one. The ones with the Zeba seemed to have trouble colonizing.. I think because the aqua zorb particles expanded.. so there are small areas on the side of the jar that didn't have the nutrients that the BRF provides.. also the expansion pressed it pretty tight against the glass. They did fully colonize in the end though... and they're just sitting waiting to be put in the FC.. that is currently housing some other casings... non zorb related. I will get this done though... and hopefully get some good information either positive or negative

ive had some problems with exploding clothes dryers lately (long story)... so it sorta slowed stuff down, but I have created a casing that is half and half... lots of pictures coming later if everything works out... and its in the FC now... so we will see shortly
