Really stupid mistake... please give input.

Hey folks, a friend of a friend got a little bit impatient and he decided to poke holes in the foil covering of his jars for gas exchange Yeah I know, big mistake. The majority of the jars were at least 80% colonized at the time he did this. Why make such a stupid decision after solid progress? He said it took him about 5 weeks just to get 80% colonization and that he was tired of waiting. He poked holes in the foil 2 days ago and examined the jars today for contams on the uncolonized substrate, but was happy to see none.
What would his best plan of action be at this point in the game? If he waits for full colonization the chances of contams due to free air flow are pretty high. He said he plans to case the cakes no matter what, so should he just leave everything alone and wait for *hopefully* contam free full-colonization, or should he remove the cakes, cut off any uncolonized substrate and case ASAP?
What's the largest downfall to removing uncolonized substrate from partially colonized cakes and beginning the fruiting process early anyhow? If all the uncolonized substrate is removed, isn't the chance of contamination the same as it would have been with fully-colonized cakes?
He appreciates your help. Thanks!

I am by no means an expert but from what I have read it should be ok. If he can tell him to put them in a sterilized container like a tupperware cleaned w/ bleach of lysol. Let em ride.

IF your doing pf tek u should have a dry verm barior on the top, I pull the foil off of mine at about 50%. Also try flipping the jars upside down to vent co2

They might be colonizing slow becouse they are to dry. Also , dont they have pre cut micro filters for jars that allow gas exchange but doesnt let contaiminats in.

You can take the colonized parts and case, but make sure you are careful about cleanliness. Also...after messing around like that, the uncolonized parts will surely contam...I would trash those, or maybe you could spray them with a little H202 mixture and see what happens...who knows? Also...when he planned to pole holes, its always best to use some sort of filter (Tyvek or poly fil).

5 weeks? why did it take so long to colonize? do you have them in an incubator?
