no, i think if a big group is coming towards you and taking up the sidewalk, they should move so you can stay on your side of the sidewalk and they can stay on theirs, instead of you walking into the grass and letting them take the whole sidewalk, and then complaining about thier rudeness

Whispering, its something that really irks me. Take my roomy and his girlfriend, they always do it. I just dont see the reason for it, if they dont want people to hear them, just leave the room. Sometimes to piss them off I ask them to speak up, that usually gets a response

Today, my GF and I were at the bookstore. We walked over to the love section and started looking. There was another couple looking there, they were reading. We looked over all the books we could, except those being blocked by the other couple. We went on to other parts of the store, checking on the couple every 5 minutes or so. They must have been reading a book, leaning on that shelf for 15 minutes. We didn't get to look at those books. I bet if we asked, they would have moved. But the thing is, we shouldn't have had to. They were rude. I mean, shit, Barnes and Noble doesn't put chairs out for decoration.

An online annoyance: When you're chatting with someone (or even in the midst of explaining a piece of software they got) when they suddenly drop offline in 1 second "gtg, bye" and you find out later that they simply went to bed. A chat is a conversation - you just dont walk out on someone, especially when you're helping them late at night

The easy solution is to walk slower than the group is, that way, they have to walk around you.

Tips are intended to be given as a thank you for providing excellent service. If you expect a tip from everyone, then it's not really a tip at all is it?
If a tip was expected from everyone no matter what, then the average tip value may as well just be added to the bill so that you can stop pretending that you're entitled to something that you're not.

It can be frustrating. Did we do something wrong? Were we inattentive? Were we bothersome? Was it somethng beyond our control?
Why didn't they say something?
The food was terrible. The music was too loud. I didn't get what I ordered. I need a refill.
If you voice your complaint and don't leave a tip, that's fine...but I'm doing my best to make you happy, and there is no tip, I'm left wondering where I fucked up and how to avoid that situation in the future when my rent is due.

When people leave their fucking garbage on cafeteria tables, bus seats, on other people's coffee tables, etc.
When people walk three or four abreast in hallways. I fantasize about giving them a huge bodycheck in the back. In my mind it seems justified.
When people who only talk about what's wrong with everything. Fucking kill yourself already.
When people insert "fuck" or"fucking" in every sentence.
When people swear in front of kids.
When people bitch about their exes.
When people listen to headphones so loud I can hear them in the library. WTF are they doing in the library?
When people only talk about themselves and their lives like it's important to me.
Grrrrr...

If you voice your complaint and don't leave a tip, that's fine...but I'm doing my best to make you happy, and there is no tip, I'm left wondering where I fucked up and how to avoid that situation in the future when my rent is due.

You're still missing the point.
Tips are given for excellent or outstanding service.
Tips are not given for expected or adequate service, because that's what we pay for in the bill. It has nothing to do with whether you did something wrong or were inattentive or bothersome. It's about whether the service provided was exceptionally above average. Is that really so difficult for you to understand?
Let me put it another way: I only give tips when I feel that I have had a very good deal. I do not give tips when I know I can get the same deal anywhere and everywhere else.
It seems that most people have very irrational thought processes with regards to the ideas behind tipping, but that doesn't mean that those of us who understand it are rude, it just means that we understand the rational logic of the idea and choose to tip appropriately based on the rational idea.

And about the tipping thing: I hate that I feel obligated to leave a tip, even when the service is shitty. It's transformed into my leaving a $2 tip with a shitty waiter, and a $4+ tip with an excellent waiter.

I tip no less than 15 percent to every waiter/waitress unless they were shitty to me.

Most of mine have to do with driving. Im not saying Im the best driver in the world but from all the fuck ups that I see driving I am in the top 10%...
When I have the common courtesy to say "thank you" and the other person just walks away or some shit. Am I not worth a simple "your welcome"?
Simple things like -Holding the door open for anyone, it takes 5 extra seconds. -Turning down the radio/TV/ect ect when on the phone - Saying Yes ma'am and yes sir (Im 20 and say it to anyone that I don't know or an authority figure)
Maybe it is the southern gentleman in me?

In the UK that may be the case, but you bring that kind of attitude to a restaurant where I and/or most of the servers that I have known in my 10 years of service industry experience, and we will follow you to the parking lot to find out what the problem with our service was and if there wasn't a problem, then you will be told not to show your face in our restaurant, again. I work in private places and the management always backs us up, if we gave good service and the customers still don't tip. It boils down you being a cheap fuck and looking for the cheapest way out on any situation. If you don't want to tip, fuck off to Burger King. Not to our restaurants where we are pulling 2.13 per hour.

Dude, you live in Cali. Don't be ridiculous. I think everyone should be made to work in the service industry just to let them see what kind of things that we put up with. Bottom line is, the general public sucks. Dealing with their petty needs is tolerable if they tip. I am not working just to work. I work for exactly the same thing that you work for: money. I am a damn good server and bartender. I am very confident in that. Is it so hard to tip what you are supposed to tip, if you receive good service? 15 percent. That's all we ask. That's all. We don't want your kindness, or your smiles. These things are nice, but they don't pay my bills. Sorry if that seems harsh, but it's the way I feel.

I used to think like that, but then I decided to accept that it is a North American custom, like it or not, to tip restaurant servers 10-15% unless service was inadequate. It has been a custom for a very long time, and servers are grossly underpaid to compensate for this. Nobody would do that job for seven bucks an hour.
If you want to reserve your tips for servers that shine your shoes or wash your car while you eat, that's your prerogative, but you are in the minority. Besides, there's nothing worse than a server who tries too hard.

Same.
I'm annoyed by shitty drivers, especially ones who drive in the fast lane going too slow
When people are late and DON'T at least CALL to say that they're running late, and you sit there and expect them to be on time.
I hate people working in the service industry in America that don't speak fucking English. You live in America, learn it, so that you don't fuck up my coffee order again.
People who see that you're waiting for a parking spot, and zoom in to the spot that you're clearly waiting for from the other side. This infuriates me.
When someone brings an item up to a register with no tag on it, lets the cashier ring in all their stuff, and then says "oh, and I want this, but I don't know how much it is". Then you get to stand there while someone from ANOTHER department goes to FIND the item and do a price check. Ask someone on the floor, before holding up an entire line of people.
When someone calls you just to say "Oh I've got to go". Don't call in the first place.
When people talk in movie theatres, or worse, bring little children in to movies that are not made for little children. So inconsiderate.
I'm sure I could go one...but I'll stop for now
