I just heard there will be a story about S. divinorum on today's edition of All Things Considered, NPR's daily news program (National Public Radio if you didn't know). You can check npr.org for a list of regional stations in addition to schedules. georgem

the segment is now available on the npr site ( www.npr.org )... and as usual with any story about drugs the ghostly danger of suicide figured prominently. Though Daniel Siebert was featured the story was not exactly balanced... in my opinion. georgem

Yeah, I heard that part of the program today on my way to work. I didn't think it was exactly balanced either but it is probably one of the most objective reports about any drug you're going to hear in the media today. I definitely did not like the implication that salvia was a direct cause of that boy's suicide. The story could have used a better description of the actual salvia experience than the one they used, which was about some girl who smoked it in an alley behind a head shop after buying it just looking for another buzz.

I intend to send a brief email to npr regarding the radio spot. They read selected emails on Thursday so if anyone else would like to do the same... go to npr.org georgem

well the article on the site about it doesnt seem too bad. it seems like they want to keep it legal, but want it regulated. they also talk about how its not just a high and its not just a toy; its a serious trip. i like the fact that they are pointing that out because i dont think random morons who wants to get high should be messing with something as powerful, and more importantly, sacred as natural hallucinogens.
the natives had it right when they made it (salvia, shrooms, peyote, etc) part of religious ceremonies. these things should be used as part of a learning experience and should be respected as such.
