Moisture in jars? is it ok
    #5421711 - 03/20/06 09:25 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I cooked up about 8 jars of vermiculite and brown rice flower but looks like the substrate had to much water or something. At the bottom of some of the jars it looks a little slimmy. No water got in while it was in the pc i think its just the mixture. Are the jars ok to use?

Might have a hard time colonizing them.

If you havent nocced them up I would empty them out and let it dry out a bit.

Condensation is going to happen anyway, specially at the end of the colonizing cycle. So keep that in mind.

I suggest you just give them a good old shake unless you've got a layer of plain verm on top. Even then that might help soak up some of the excess. I say give it a go with half the jars and see what happens. In my experience, slimy = contamination troubles down the line.

If there's excess moisture, the spores are going to have a tough time colonizing through it, while some other bad stuff doesn't have those problems. Like the above poster said, slimy = opening the door to contams.
