Hey Everyone, I was just wanting to talk about this. I got 2 cakes ready and i was wondering if i took them out of the incubator and put them in some light before taking them out would that speed up pinning, Or really is it just best to do a dunk. I just want to try different methods so i can see which one works best for me, Whats the best way that people have found to initiate pinning on a Cambodian Pf Cake. There fully colonized...

Dunking doesn't necessarily initiate pinning, but rehydrates the cake to provide adequate moisture content for the growth of mushrooms.
What spurs the mycelium to pin is the introduction of light, as well as a drop in temperatures, although this could possibly be achieved through a what is know as "cold shocking."

No, you take tehm out of the jars before cold shocking, and as far as how long, theres varied times from 12hrs to 36 hrs. 12 hrs being the more favorable in my opinion. If you look up dunking in the FAQ's your sure to find something on cold shocking to answer most of your questions.

Dunking is not necessary for the first flush. IME dunking does make a huge difference though. However, cold shocking has never really done shit for me, even tho i've only done it like once. I don't cold shock, if you don't use an incubator then yeah, you should probably dunk/cold shock at the same time using Gladware. GL

if your using a jar there's no reason you can't just dunk it in the jar.. but pull out any filters or whatever you using... it makes for a little cleaner procedure i think

The best way to initiate pinning is to expose the cake to all pinning triggers simultaneously and have the conditions optimal.
This means: LIGHT (13W CF light on a 12/12 cycle) HIGH HUMIDITY (for cakes close to 100%) FAE (As much as you can get without dropping the humidity) 10 degree drop in temp ( 82 down to mid 70's, this is all the cold shock you need)

Cold shocking did nothing for my Cambodians. After waiting about ten days, I dunked them for about 6 hours and placed them directly into my FC and about 2 days later had pins apoppin'. My GT's on the other hand did nothing, even after dunking, until I cold shocked them. Hope this helps, and GOOD LUCK.

Cubensis don't need a cold shock for pinning. It is unnecessary. They are a tropical, mild temperate mushroom.

Read my pinning strategy it works for cakes as well. Also dunking for sure helps especially first flushes! If you have ever seen the comparison you'll know it's a fact!!!! During the substrate run alot a water is depleted from the substrate especially BRF cakes.
