wisdom,

what is it? perhaps someone will offer a text-book definition; or what is wisdom to you?

i'm not sure, but i think it has something to do with the management of intelligence.

thoughts?

I think you are right.

I would define wisdom as intelligence under the direction of ones soul.

Everyone who has wisdom has intelligence.
But not everyone who has intelligence possesses wisdom.

I would seriously question this definition as an extremely ambigious, undefined term lies pivotal within it.

Intelligence, of course, is simply the act of aquring and applying knowledge, while wisdom is the ability to discern and judge higher truths, to form an encompassing outlook, to bring a higher level of awareness into one's intelligence, etc.

Why, no unnecessary, unsubstantiated ambiguity required to define wisdom! Ahem. Ockham! Ockham! cough cough, oh my, please excuse me...  :smirk:

Any standard... "higher" is an adjective that was not necessary to apply in the first place. The ability to discern truth was all that was needed.

Fireworks-God: "higher" is an adjective that was not necessary to apply in the first place

Quote from Fireworks-God: "wisdom is the ability to discern and judge higher truths."

So why did you yourself apply it?

Hmmm...yes, I would apply knowledge to an individual or personal level.
And if knowledge is approved, then it gets its award of wisdom.

But this award still does not stand for total truth.

I think, the former fact that the world was called flat, was some mal-approved knowledge, so it was awarded a false medal of wisdom

It is the practical application of knowledge...nothing more. Wisdom ain't mystical...knowledge + experience = wisdom

I applied it to signify truth beyond the simple truth expressed by intelligence itself. That is to say, truth in context of a more encompassing perspective, thus, "higher" in that of more elevation than the simple truth by its own right.

i conceded that the term was not necessary to be applied so that the term would not serve as a distraction to the point. Either way, ignore the term completely or consider my explanation, wisdom is defined in reasonable, practical terms that need not rely upon any personal concepts that cannot be determined as reflecting the reality of the matter.

In your second post in this thread you quoted me as saying the following:

I never said that.

Um, excuse me, I was quoting your second post in this thread. Please take the time to examine it carefully.

Quote:

Jellric's second post in this thread said:
wisdom is the ability to discern and judge higher truths..

Higher by what standard?

You quoted MY first post, "wisdom is the ability to discern and judge higher truths", and replied to it with "Higher by what standard?". Your quotation of my post was placed in bold.

When I replied to your post, I hit the "Quote" button to reply. Thus, the part of my second post that was in quotations was:

Quote:

Jellric said:
wisdom is the ability to discern and judge higher truths..

Higher by what standard?

Which is exactly what your second post looked like.

Any ambiguity regarding who made the statement "wisdom is the ability to discern and judge higher truths" results from the fact that you decided to place my statement in bold text, as opposed to quotations that stated who originally made the statement.

I certainly won't call into question your intelligence, but your wisdom on this matter, on the other hand.... :smirk:

The whole point is that you never were misquoted. Where in the hell are you getting the impression that you were? Requesting that I refrain from misquoting you in the future seems to be implying that I once misquoted you; if it wasn't implying such, then you would equally be requesting that everyone refrain from misquoting you in the future.

In both Gnostic thought and in Kabbalistic thought, Sophia-Chokmah [Wisdom] embodies a metaphysical Principle - even the Divine 'Consort' of the 'male' Deity. Both Gnosticism and Kabbalism draw on Old Testament Wisdom literature upon which to base their metaphysical claims.

Since in both schools, human beings are microcosms of the Macrocosmic Infinite (made in "the image and likenesss of God") our existence derives from stepped-down emanations of God. Wisdom manifests in multifarious ways (in Kabbalism it manifests in Four Worlds in which we [consciously or unconsciously] participate). In Gnostic thought, there is also a step-down transformation (complicated Gnostic myths attempt to describe this) from Ultimate Reality (Pleroma) through the Logos, through Wisdom, through the Demiurgic Creator-God into us. These are all 'metaphors' for the transformation of Ultimate Reality ('Spirit,' now referred to as Consciousness) into our human consciousness. The Kabbalists use spheres (sephiroth) to denote various universal forms of consciousness, of which Wisdom is the first to emanate from Absolute Unity (Kether).

Does all this 'stuff' help to answer you question directly? Probably not,
especially if all you want is a simple defining sentence. Wisdom needs to be experienced, and then it will be communicated in as many ways as there are experiencers of it capable of articulating it. BE HERE NOW, on page 2 said:

"Consciousness EQUALS Energy = Love = Awareness = Light = Wisdom = Beauty = Truth = Purity. It's all the SAME trip, It's all the SAME. Any trip you want to take leads to the SAME place."

I have agreed with this page for 33 years now - it works for me.

Peace.

Right on. Wisdom is putting your intelligence to good use.

You can be intelligent and evil but, you can't be wise and evil. For it is not wise to be evil.
