ummm mist for humidity (i find misting with boiled water is better since it creates a humid environment fast PLUS is sterile but thats just me) and fan once or twice a day...

stick to casing... cakes are cool, but unless u really know how to get it outa em', casings, in my opinion, provide give you way more mushroom flesh/weight. best of luck though :-)

you don't want loner mushrooms... get that cake some friends in there stat  also your syran top might be kinda hard to get off to fan as much as your going to need to w/ that setup, id say use the lid if you have it. since the sides are clear you don't necessarily need a clear top, vertical light just give them a direction to grow

I'm dissapointed that many people post just because they can ~ without really knowing what they're posting or why.

FANNING is very important in a setup like yours. FAE is what everybody calls it, but it's more than just a spot where air can come and go, with cakes you've got to fan (I use a plastic mousepad or a tabbed binder\folder\notebook divider) to make a sort of gust come down on the perlite because CO2 sinks and you want to drive it out of the container. For me this has been instrumental in providing the best possible cake flushes (almost everything I do is pftek brf\verm 1/2pint jars). Also, keep the RH (humidity) as close to 100% as you can. Remember that if there's any standing water in your perlite, it's detrimental to the perlite's function. It should be wet to the touch but not IN water. Often when you spray to increase RH to the proper amount, especially in conjunction with fanning since fanning gets rid of the humidity you had hovering (if you fan the way I explained above), it's easy to make perlite soup on the bottom of your terrarium. You can take your cakes out for a second (I do this outside, don't worry about contams~ colonized cakes are more resiliant than you think) and sort of drain some of the water from the perlite. Spraying the sides of the tub will increase the surface area of evaporating water in your terrarium. What's the deal with the saran-wrap, brae; You really need it?

Not too long ago I read that you should stay away from red lights/high red-spectrum lights for a grow. Maybe someone can verify that? :mushroom2:

about what inv3rse said about staying away from red lights:
Blue lights are better because they have a shorter wavelength and since mushrooms are photosensitive and not phototrophic they react better to the higher occurance of the photons, but there's nothing wrong with using red lights as long as they're providing guidance for your myc and its fruits. So blue lights are more efficient for direction than red lights, but although the difference in results are real they aren't amazing.

Can mushrooms see UV light? Very possibly. Can mushrooms see infrared light? Maybe. As for whether they can see x-rays or radio, they're more likely to see x-rays as light than radio.

Well, I'm certainly no expert, and as I've stated b4, I really know nothing about mushrooms, I'm only slightly past being a 1st time grower myself, but all of the research I've done suggests that red lights have no value whatsoever to mycelia, which is why disturbing them befor at least partial colonization is recommended in red light, like a darkroom, and that for some reason blue light is very beneficial in initiating pinning, as well as aiding maturation. Wow, that was one hell of a run-on sentence, my English professor would be pissed. I've read that blue LED's are ideal, but seem to be relatively expensive ($2.50 a piece at Radio Shack). I was thinking about using blue Christmas lights myself. Anyway, sorry that was so long, and I hope it was helpful.
