simple incubator?

So I'm new and the standard incubator seems to be a stacked incubator, from two tubs with water and an aquarium heater in the middle. Why can't you just put enough water a tub to cover 2/3rds the jar high, put the aquarium heater in the middle and a small water pump to circulate. It would seem that the jars would have a more stable environment for temp control, being water is more dense than air. HMMM will the jars float??? Just curious.

Water can easily be contaminated with bacteria thus spreading it into your jars

Do you want your jars getting wet? Picture it for a moment. Your jars are sitting there all happy in their water. Then you decide you want to pick one up and look at it. You grab it, and pick it up.. oops! Some water came off the bottom of the jar you picked up and landed on the coffee filters of the jars below it.
The idea is a good one for the most part. But then we have the 'wet jar' issue. I guess if you're not worried about having wet coffee filters, polyfil, and tyvek, give it a shot! Let us know how it works out. All I know is, a wet filter is a transport and seems like a risk to me, unless it's alchohol.

Thanks for all the feedback, I really appreciate it. I was planning on some bleach in the water, but the "wet tops of the jars" is a good argument. I tend to handle them too much anyway. I'm not happy with my tub in tub, I've got the towel below the jars and a towel on the outside for insulation, but I'm getting temp fluctuations of about 4-6 degrees, due to the swings in the ambient temps, between night and day. I'm not willing to move them in the evenings, because I've got a great number of jars. I was envisioning a Plexiglas container about 10" tall and perhaps 40"x40" filled with 7" tall spawn jars, a few heaters and one small fountain pump to circulate water. Perhaps 3 or 4 inches of water. Bleach will kill anything including tuberculosis and HIV at 10%, so that's easy. It's gotta take care of the temp swings...My bulk spawn incubation is the only problem I'm having. Tomorrow the fields will call with rain in Texas and 700 acres I should do some good. Thanks again. you can use one tub with a submersible aquarium heater instead of 2 tubs...
but using a rack to keep the jars out of the water would be smart.
I used to use one...

Thanks Roadkill, I might have read that thread, I've been reading for several weeks, before posting, and must say kudos on the FAQ idea and all the beginners links and teks, it worked great for me. Although I started some time before that.. Your sponsors have lots of my money... I think I'm going to take a few jars and try them partially submerged, just as a test to see if the temp is more constant and what the contamination factor is like. They stay in a shop now, just no control over the ambient temp so there can be a 20 degree shift at night sometimes. Just seems like it would work great. I'll add a piece of tyvek to the outside of the lids and give her a go. Pictures of my failure to follow.
