What exactly is ego loss?

I read this term alot and I've never really thought about it until yesterday, when I may have experianced it for the first time. I don't know what it is though, so I could be totally off. Anyways, yesterday I vaped 3 bowls with 4 other friends. My friend had just picked up an O of some really really dank bud. This shit was vaping like crazy. I had intense CEVs and I was probably the most stoned I've ever been off bud. At one point everything went black, and I saw an image of myself sitting in the middle of this blackness. There was nothing else but me. No world, no time, no sounds, just me sitting cross legged in the blackness. Is this what ego loss kind of, or can somebody explain to me what it is?

When you lose your ego, there is no longer any "you." Your personal identity is gone.
Sounds like you just got very stoned.

Its when your so tripped out that you have an extremely profound sense of time, life, space, your personality and how you interact with people, other people, animals, etc. and you no longer are in a solid state of conciousness and rational thinking, but are sitting above space/time/matter. You cant comprehend what you see/hear/feel/taste/smell. If the experience is profound enough you can still sense it after you come down, and possibly have a type of temporary major/minor psychosis

Yea, I want to try to accomplish it on a shroom trip sometime. I don't know if I'm prepared for that yet though. And the bud I had was just really crystally, and vaped forever. It was from New York.

everyone here is saying positive things that are true about it for the most part. They aren't telling you one thing though. Letting go of your ego is SCARY. Before it happens, you feel that you are dying...after that unpleasantness though, it's a beautiful, beautiful thing.

fruitboot...you dont really have to be prepared...you need to have confident that this state will liberate you and bring better things...this will make it easy to choose letting go, instead of keepin it up. You need the right dose though. Its not the end of the world if you fight a bit too, you will learn. I can tell you that the moment when the transition happened was kinda painful. But it all ends there.
haha bud from new york...I heard some people payin up to 120$ for an 1/8 there these days...'diesel' or sometn they call it.

Read Huxley's doors of perception... when the investigator asked him about time, his response was "there's a lot of it" -
Now, I haven't experienced ego loss myself, I don't think - I tend to find myself more rooted in surroundings / objects (usually in bed - as that's where I trip, all comfy!!!) but less 'me' and more, part of the universe.
But Huxley's comment seems to be involving this idea of ego loss as some have described

DAMN!!!! $120 is pretty steep. ALTHOUGH, Diesel is really nice. I tried some in Portland, OR about a month ago...probably the highest I have ever been. lol

It can be horrifying.

"Ego loss" is sometimes used interchangeably with "ego death." Some people get very frightened because they feel as if they're dying, since everything they know and recognize about themselves just slips away, as they enter a state of virtual unconsciousness.
Like someone mentioned, the concept of "you" becomes abstract and essentially meaningless. When you experience ego loss, you are simply not there.

yeah i tried to fight it when i took my 10.45 of potent potent shrooms sheer unimaginable terror then i finally exhausted myself and let go and then i understood the reason for all things that happen but could only understand it when i was in ego death.
a very valuable experience. before that my friend made me lie in bed and i could think of an image and then it would appear and then grow like freaky eyeballs on stalks and scared the bejesus out of me i puked and watched my shrooms turn into animals and swim around in the toilet. my fuzzy carpet had waves crashing on itself crazy crazy stuff.after ego death i saw my lifeless body as "i" floated then i "floated" to the closet and entered a different dimension crazy loss of reality is so intense its almost inexplicable.but then again i didnt know who i was just a swirling cloud of energy. very good experience.

I think land crab said it well.
For me it is very hard to deal with "the process", because I have to deal with any problems I have and more before becoming ego-less(no natural desire to think about my life, my well-being, and even my body. It is kind of like being dead I would imagine. SHamans call it the little death. You generally have to be very comforitable with your self before you can experience the extacy of ego loss. You can remain there for some time, and you brain seems to work independant of your fractal memory and concept of body. Everything you know goes out the window, and then you begin to learn about this new "landscape". That is where the greatest teachings/teachers are found.

I suppose that everyone experiences things differently - but from descriptions it would seem that it's best to let it happen, than fight it - a bit like those waves of coming down from pills (which I loathe - its so icky!)
