Peat alternative?
    #5416047 - 03/18/06 02:17 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

What is your call on this potting soil mix as an alternative to straight peat? Something to note, this bag is about 4 years old but has been in the same cool dry place in that time.

sorry for the large pics

Not real sure, but that is what I've read. If the mycellium continues feeding at the top, then I think that pinning triggers are null and void, or at least very hard to achieve.

Not really. I have two bags of the stuff thinking that it would be great. It does seem like a good idea, but in reality it's not. I guess if you really, really wanted to use it you could mix it in the substrate, but it's really not going to benefit you in any way.

when your casing layer is nutrient rich would can run into overlay. this is like you said because the myc keeps growing. also a non nurtitious casing is something like ther dry verm layer in pf jars... it helps keep out contams. now if you have nutes in your casing layer contams have something to start on and once they get a foothold your pretty effed.
